So there's this juicy looking gig with a realistic budget, looks fine, everything checks out, but the email link is help@voice123.com and it gives instructions on how to apply and audition. To me that's a new low. Dangle that carrot and jerk it away, there IS no job, as far as Craigslist is concerned. Real classy. I'm not sure but I'd imagine the post is also a violation of the CL TOS...

I see nothing wrong with it. It's clear you need to register with them to get this audition. And they give the link to register. The email is probably there in case you have questions.

It's misleading. You have to pay to join a pay to play site.

I thought they were getting rid of the ho's from craigslist.

It is misleading because they are not actually offering the gig, which besides being dishonest, is most likely against Craigslist's TOS, as there is no actual gig being offered via the ad, just a gig that is representative of V123 auditions. I went ahead and played dumb and submitted my standard email, still waiting for a response. Think I'm gonna have a long wait.

Drawing a parallel between the quality ($) of jobs on Voice 123 and the quality ($) of jobs on Craigslist?

Hmmmm.

Naw, this one's too easy.

I wasn't aware that Craigslist had a Terms of Service. God forbid anyone do anything to soil the reputation of Craigslist.

Yes that is quite clear - what is not cool is posting it in the guise of a job available thru CL. Yes 99% of the jobs there are crap, but I landed an agent and some high-profile gigs thru a CL listing, so it is part of my "stragedy" (as Bugs would say)...

Yes, CL has a TOS and people get flagged all the time for posting bogus ads, of which I would say this one certainly qualifies...yes you can apply for the job, but ONLY after you pay the $$$ for V123, THEN you MIGHT have a SHOT at the gig. The gigs and jobs sections on CL are for hiring thru that venue only, as far as I am aware, but regardless of the actual TOS, this sure smacks of a bait & switch to me, there is a gig, but "you" (we) don't have the access to it that a listing on CL implies.

This isn't a huge issue or anything, just one more thing about 123 that bothers me.

I hear ya Chris and have to say it is a misleading type of ad.
There is the flag option of users to flag spam, prohibited, miscategorized. I've used it in the past.

Chris,

From the headline, I thought you were saying that Voice123.com itself had posted this listing on CL. It appears to me from reading the ad that it was the "voice seeker" who posted this, not Voice123.com. Or am I missing something?

Voice123 is speaking for the "voice seeker" by advertising on CL. All contacts are to be made through V123 email addresses. They realize that only members can apply. So why not dangle a sizable carrot to boost a shrinking membership.

Jim,

Thanks for the clarification. My bad.

I had the same initial reaction as Bob. Thought it was the voice seeker double-posting.

The question is: why? V123 has thousands of people to audition, and a high paying gig like this will even attract the good people. Why put it on Craigslist and not other gigs?

Because they want to cast their "anybody can be a VO- talent not required" net as wide as possible, and many (not all) of the fishers on Craigslist qualify...maybe V123 can get some new members.

After they're done with Craiglist, they might start canvasing soup kitchens around the country for prospective voice talents to join their "service", then nursing homes.
