Sneaky buggers! Kept maxxing the mic gain during my Skype phone patch session today. Skype, my Apogee One preamp and Twisted Wave seemed to be at loggerheads. Anyone have any idea which one might have been at fault? I'm leaning towards Skype being the culprit.

You have to follow these instructions
That is the Library folder inside your User Account folder.
eg: /Users/soundgun/Library/Application Support/Skype

That will disable the Automatic Gain Control in Skype.
Annoying how they took that option out of the Mac version preferences!

George, I'm trying to find this, but keep getting stuck because when I open Application Support, Skype is not listed there.

Arlene,

You have exactly the same setup as me! Did you try option/alt clicking the 'Go' menu? I couldn't find the required folder at first, but doing the aforementioned will bring up the Library folder and you'll find the correct Application Support folder in there.

Thanks for your advice, Matt, but I think maybe I'm just Mac clueless. I actually watched a Youtube video on this very thing, and what I notice is that my Application Support folder in Finder has very few items in it. And Skype is not included. Maybe I have some arcane view setting switched off? I've tried every option I can (including clicking with alt/option) but no luck Frown

Sounds like the wrong application folder...
Make sure you following the example I gave closely as there are TWO Library folders on every Mac. You need to be in the correct Library folder, under your user account.

Thanks for your help, George. I figured out my problem. For some reason, the Library file under my user name was hidden. Using a version of Matt's suggestion revealed it and the rest is history!

Thanks guys! Smile

I'd like to set up my computer/recording system to work with skype.

I have a condenser mic > aphex 230 > mackie 802vlz3 (w/attached monitors) > mbox2 mini (w/protools le) > USB to PC. I also cable the PC audio out of my soundcard to the mixer for listening with headphone/speaker monitors.

All of these components are standard gear but I'm unable to find clear instructions on how to efficiently set this all up and toggle between various duties like...

1. a skype call with a producer and recording at the same time
2. a skype call only without recording
3. listening to audio from an online source
4. recording and monitoring

I can do all of the above but, I’m unable to get a usable VO recording during the Skype connection…the skype caller is fine but there’s a slight bit of echo in my recording.

I'm looking for the most efficient way to operate the system. If it's posted somewhere or if anyone has experience with this, I would appreciate your response.

Thanks, I appreciate your help!

Hi heflinator, you should definitely schedule a service call with George Whittam (see his earlier posts for contact info) about this! He'll be able to sort out your specific problem, I'm sure. Good luck!
