Just having a really good day.

Ever make a kick a$$ edit and just laugh out loud cause it is indistinguishable? Well, I just did (not bragging, just sharing)...and I got to thinking with all the insanely doom and gloom eco-horror stories "out there" (in that land where they all wear shoes)....I just wanted to share with someone (you) who would completely understand.

I totally freakin love my job.
cool
that is all.

The only thing that equals it in coolness is making that kind of edit on physical tape, with a razor blade, in front of witnesses.

I totally agree Lee, I cut my VO teeth on reels and razors, and spent many years in a radio news room- editing three of four interviews a day into :08 sound bites..it's great training!! Something about sharp objects and the fear of losing an entire days work with one stroke make you pay attention Lips Are Sealed

*edited once for a dropped word...so I'm great with audio...not so great with the written word. lol.

Oh yeah I wielded a mean razor blade & grease pencil too!...and lined up the spaghetti tape very carefully!

Yes, Moe, we TOTALLY understand!
Good for you!

Laugh

Making a splendid edit is like getting a strike in bowling.

It freakin' rocks.

Deirdre,

As both a league bowler and a voice actor/audio editor I completely agree with that analogy. I just wish I could make strikes as often as I do good edits! And and Moe, I love your job (and mine!), too. Laugh

I must confess I'm way better at editing than bowling. Maybe it's a shoes thing (I can't wear de chooze!)

Yes! I love it when that happens! I had to employ what I call the "ransom note" editing technique the other day, and it sounded like a solid take. I was giddy!

I know the feeling. I loves me some editing. It's kind of sad in a way, though. The better we do the job, the less noticeable it is. Almost makes you want to tell someone, "Hey, listen to what I made them say!"

I love YOU, Moe! Happy early birthday, Coincidentally, I'll be bowling on your big day. There must be some weird shoes/karma/editing thing somewhere in there. No? Nah, probably not.

Interesting story related to that fact Don -

In college I did sound design for a few shows (including a production of Yentl that Isaac B. Singer actually attended)...in the reviews everything was mentioned but the sound. Needless to say I was a tad crestfallen. I will never forget what my adviser said to me "As a sound designer, if you do your job right, it will go unnoticed. When they start writing about your sound, you've f'd up."

It relates very well to what we VOs do...if you do it well, it sounds easy, which is why everyone and their great aunt's neighbor think they can just walk into "that voice talking thing" for extra money.

I haven't been bowling in years, so I'm substituting with "making a 20 foot putt."
