|
|
i've done voice work for computer companies, science labs, autoparts manufacturers, escalator repair teams, accounting departments...explaining things to people who actually know the business i'm supposedly the "authority" for. fortunately for me, i'm a good actor.
add one more to my list of know-nothing spokespersons:
yep, for the next full year, i'll be extolling the virtues and excitement of the PGA Tour on radio and television, in what has turned out to be the single highest-paying one hour booth session i've ever done.
and to add to my sense of humility: after spending close to two years and mucho dinero seeking out self-promotion knowledge, this job came gift wrapped. i had been cast before i even knew about the gig, through the good offices of someone who had my demo and put me forward for the job.
sounds backwards, but sometimes it works better when i stop trying to make it happen!
excuse me now while i get back to studying this golf stuff. i may need to know how many strikes you get before you're out. _________________ rowell gormon

Rowell,
That's easy. In golf it's 18, or ... uh ... is that holes. Hmmm. I never was any good at golf. Ask me about baseball sometime. I know how to strike out really good in that game. _________________ Be well,

Excellent, Rowell!
As for golf, I've heard the course called links, and there are a lot of Canadian geese on our Utah fairways who leave lots of poo.
Hope that helps! _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

actually, i did spend a few years doing those things as character customizations alongside a pre-recorded pat summerall for a cassette product called "fantasy challenge". good ol' "nigel ashcroft". i often cringed when i knew the recipient of the gag commentary would be a true brit.
the pga folks just wanted plain ol' me...and had enough spots and intro's/outs ready for their whole campaign. i should credit joe bruno at procomm, who put me forward for this rich bounty. _________________ rowell gormon

Congratulations. I'm envisioning a Murder Mystery set on a golf course with all of those clubs and balls, and holes--on the other hand maybe not. |

You just got my dream gig! Love golf. Love money!
Way to go Rowell!!!
Sending demos out cold pays off every so often. I got the VO/Production job for a major market Toyota dealer from a demo I had sent out 18 months earlier! _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

WOW, wow, wow...fabbo! You're gonna love doing that gig! Isn't it amazing and wonderful, the good stuff that creeps on us when we're looking the other way. Surprise! Yipee! _________________ Intuit and do it!

Such good news! The ability to sound like we know what we're talking about is what we sell (in some cases just the opposite.) And getting cast off the demo because our marketing efforts are working in the background - even better! _________________ Playing for a living...
