OK... so a lot of us are trying to save some tree & read off the screen & not print out scripts.
I get that.
When I use Word2Wav I read off the screen as well.

BUT

When you're editing & making sure you didn't mess up...what do you do?

I STILL end up printing out my long-form narration scripts to follow along with on a copy stand next to my computer....which defeats the purpose of reading off the screen in the first place.

Just wondering what you guys are going. Laugh

L.

I print everything because I write on everything.

I use both sides.

I print out the scripts to read them and also to read whilst editing. I re-cycle like mad and with a little thought and planning have been able to use one sheet of paper, both sides for 12 scripts. The other advantage of doing this is when a director gives me notes I don't end up with a TFT monitor covered in correction fluid.

I am an avid recycler also, starting in 1985.

Print it, Use it and Re-cycle it.

I'm paperless as well, Liz.

The best solution is to get a second monitor and keep the script on one and the script on another.

Barring that, I keep the script on top and Audition behind. If there's a mistake, Alt-Tab back to Audition/PT/Whatever, make your edit, continue playing, and alt-tab back to the script.

You could also go through scriptless, make your edits. Then re-listen to the whole thing again, following along with the script.

If you like to mark your copy I have found that using italics and bold and underline allow me to do the marking.

For editing whilst reading along with the script you will either need to make a window for each program and size them for your needs, one for the audio and one for the script or use 2 monitors. If you only have one monitor and want 2 and don't have or want to shell out the money for a new one only to find out that you don't like it anyway, look at craigslist there seems to be old CRT monitors on the free thread quite often and you can also find them cheap at a local thrift store. Another means of recycling by keeping those old monitors out of the landfill.

PEACE!

Exactly what I do. All on one monitor... a really wide monitor.

David,

Exactly. Liz. A 24" monitor will make a big difference in how you see things. Smile

I dig paper. I guess it's a hold over from too many years in a newsroom, gotta read it off paper. Plus I create a secondary paper trail, I write all the specs, fee, contact, date etc on the script...It actually saved my bacon when my computer crashed last year (what, me back up?)

Plus, someone has to pick up the slack for your ever shrinking carbon footprints Shocked

I don't understand the big monitor mentality. Two monitors give you more real estate. I'll take 2x15 inch monitors over a 24 inch any day. To each his own, I suppose.

Jeff,
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer there - just a preference. For those of us on MacMini's, we don't get a choice (no dual monitor support), but for the times you can blow Logic up to one giant editing screen... enter the singing angels here... it's very handy.

But I understand the "editing software here - script there" thing. Different strokes...

I have a monitor at my workstation and a monitor in the studio room. I have keyboards in both so I can edit script from either location. When doing narrations for the TV racing series we would often revise script while recording and having the extra keyboard at the monitor in the studio room was a great thing.

If the scripts are in Word I can highlight in any color as well as make annotations and pretty much anything else.

One of my coaches hates the idea because you wouldn't do that if called into another studio where you have a paper script handed to you. She wants you to be used to having paper in hand, mark up accordingly and be able to walk around and be comfortable with it.

Jeff,

Two monitors is a great solution. But, you would have to pull my Acer 24" from my cold, dead fingers.
