We are looking for a Native Russian voice to record a narration course for some corporate education and training. The course is approximately 70 to 120 minutes in length and will be due back to us within about 24 - 36 hours after we send it to you. We will make sure to give you a due date and time when we send you the course.

The pay for these courses is $ 5 USD per finished minute (mistakes edited out, but no need to separate files or remove breaths, etc.)

If your voice is approved, we will also send you a talent agreement for you to sign.

If you agree to all of these terms, we would love to have you audition the following script for us for approval with our client. We are looking for high quality audio with no background noise and no room echo.

the answer to your question is the offer is low. but it's your decision to make.

most importantly, i hope they're not asking you to demo/audition a large portion of the script, because anyone with half a brain can make a casting decision on whether or not your right for the project with only listening to you read a few lines... a paragraph tops.

again - your decision. it really depends where you are in the game and how badly you want to work... in the end, work is work.

In fact, No!

They asked me to audition a couple of lines... it is funny because this guy does not speak Russian at all... they used some sort of a software to translate... so those lines sounded weird to the bone hahaha I hope the text is gonna be well translated, otherwise I will have killed myself before the project is over.

I recorded those two lines, sent it to them... now he wants me to record the same lines using my studio mic and all so he can show it to the end user for aproval... will do it tomorrow Smile

Whenever the passage is too long, I either make it short OR insert a watermark (beeps) from start to finish Smile

*evil grin*

It seems like they want a lot in a bowl of soup for a nickel. $350 to $600 for 70 to 120 minutes? I agree with anthony... seems a bit low. With you speaking Russian, I hope all the script is printed likewise. It would be beneficial to see just how long the script is... how many pages... single or double spaced. And be sure to look at all the fine print in that "talent agreement".

#1. Fluent other-than-English speakers should demand/receive a premuim for doing work generated in this country.

#2. Lowest of the Lowball is $30-$50 per page/minute.

I agree, but unfortunately that's just not the way it is in general... too bad.
there is a studio near my house that pays more for Spanish than English - love that. They asked for my demo recently to be added to their roster - love that even more.

Why not offer to do a PROPER translation, too?

And Anthony... I'm seriously thinking about expanding on those Spanish classes I took in high school *coffcoff* years ago.

Oh boy... I knew it seemed low haha Thanks, everyone for your input...

Well, we will see what happens... after all he does not know yet if the client will like my voice.

I am thinking... should I give him a hint now that his pay is low or wait untill he tells me YES LOL

another thing... first time he asked me to record, he said to read those line in FORMAL, SEMI FORMAL and CONVERSATIONAL manner... well, I could see the difference between FORMAL and CONVERSATONAL but Semiformal??? Howis that? Cute and Ugly Semi cute/ugly? what would that be LOL

Well yes, it is low. But if you've got no other jobs lined up at least it's Money. However at the same time you don't want to be taken advantage of either. Personally I would tell them that $5 per page is well below the going rate and then I would try to get at least $10. Even though that's still very low, at least it would double the amount you'll make. Approach him nicely and see if he's willing to bend a little. Maybe even meet you half way. In the end it's up to you. As I mentioned.... This is Only what "I" would do.

Ha ha!

SEMI-Formal implies your Russian would be wearing a business suit.
With flip-flops.

Thinkin out loud here...

Now if the Russian was well written I'd say:

$600 for 120 minutes? It could take you up to 8 hours to record, edit out mistakes, and transfer files. That's $600 for a day's work. That's $75 an hour. That's at an annual salary rate of $150,000. I don't know, but for a newcomer to this business, I don't think that's bad. You get paid for experience. Either you get the $600 or someone else does and I'll bet there are quite a few Russian narrators around if you know where to look.

But, if it's badly written and you'd have to slog through it trying to make it understandable, that's another kettle of РЫБА.

This is interesting. I got a quote for a professional English to Russian translation of an 18,000 word document (approx. 120 minutes of reading in English) and they want $2,448.

Well, it certainly gives you something to think about.

I kinda did the the same math myself, Bruce. And thought, "Hmm... $675 for a day's work in my PJ's is pretty good." I certainly don't make that kind of scratch as a TV station department head for a day's worth of headaches.

My concern would be that contract. I'd look that over with some care.
