With Morgan White.
Talking about VO.
I'm such a spaz— we're only on for 10 more minutes and It just occurred to me to put something up here.

Did you mention making animal noises in Simon Rushton's left ear? |

I believe that it would've been the sizzle that sold the sausage. Did either you or your fellow guest manage to be even remotely interesting? Or was it a case of "it was only 10 minutes it just seemed longer"? |

It was the hour that seemed like 10 minutes.
And I am always riveting. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Nah. It was just a little talk about VO.
I think my chief contribution was letting people know that their native speech is their baseline and anything else is a deviation. Your natural speech is the "right way"— the "standard American Dialect" is an accent you can learn.
I also warned people about the "demo mill" snake oil salesmen. "You have great potential— come to a master class" kind of thing that snags several thousand dollars from you and leaves you with an unusable demo.

Hmmmmm... must have missed it. Unless that's you taking about property values.
Probably not. _________________ "Bailey"

Really? But if I totally let my Kentucky twang take over it's hard to imagine booking many jobs in the corporate/commercial/announcer realm.
Not to dispute what you're saying----but I am curious how it applies to those of us who don't naturally have the standard flat Midwestern accent.
This has been top of mind recently as I've started looking more closely at "branding", and the concept of going with who and what you are, and not trying to be Don LaFontaine, etc. |

Don't misconstrue what I'm saying— if you grew up in Kentucky, your "normal" mode of speech won't get you work in most cases.
However, I don't ever want someone to tell you you need to eradicate your "accent". The way you grew up speaking is YOUR right way. Anything else is a deviation, as much as my learning a Texas accent is a deviation for me.
The way you grow up speaking is your baseline.
It's your "normal".
If you must learn Standard American (not for god's sake "flat Midwestern"— that's a completely different accent), you should approach it as an accent, not a replacement. _________________ DBCooperVO.com
