Some of you know of the startup site "RadioVoices123". And some of you know of the controversy that brewed there regarding the Value of SaVoa.
I have been reading that site to see if and when the Dust-UP would subside. I also have been trying to figurer out how the owner, Keith Farrell, would cover his cost.
I found this link to an online URL auction site http://www.websiteslate.com/viewauction/303. It appears that selling the URL "RadioVoices123" was Mr. Farrells means of making a return on his investment into the site.
FYI The site appears to be down at the time of this writing.
As much as many of us don't like the way many Pay to Play sites do business, it seem disingenuous to lure folk to a VO lead site based on FREE then find that the owner wants to sell the URL to the highest bidder.
That is kind of like getting into a Taxi and then seeing the driver bail out midway along the trip. "Trust but Verify" still rings true. _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"

It could just be that Mr. Farrell became overwhelmed at the amount of work that would be required to promote and operate the site and decided to bail.
In any case, I'm glad I decided to "wait and see" before signing up. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

What Lee is describing sounds plausible. Sometimes it's better to know when you've bitten off more than you can chew and focus on what you do best. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Ed, I don't know what his issue has been, but he has changed his company name to http://www.EveryDemo.com
I had started putting up a profile, but never got around to the auditioning part...to busy!
Anyway, just an FYI. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

Well, I didn't even consider going for RadioVoices123. Firstly, I did not want to be associated with anything having the knock-off name 123 in the title. And secondly, I do not consider myself a "radio" voice. So it didn't fit into my brand at all. _________________ Diane

Interesting. I guess that shoots down the theory that he doesn't want to continue running the website. That brings me back to my original theory: he has been, or fears being, threatened with legal action from that other "123" voice site and decided to opt for a name change. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Uh, I think you guys are making something out of nothing... the "123" suffix is often used for domain names that are already taken.
As for Keith Farrell, I don't know him, nor have I talked to him, but he seems to be running an ethical site.
SaVoa does not have a corner on the market of VO sites that require passing a "test"....and I say all this being a member of the SaVoa Advisory Board.
Give the guy a break...some comments comparing Radiovoices123 to SaVoa were neither inflammatory nor sarcastic...nor were they raised by Farrell.
But....I could be totally wrong.

I'm not criticizing Farrell for having used "123" in his name. I think he has probably wisely decided not to get into p___ing contest with Voice123. Whether they would prevail in court or not, they could probably make enough trouble for him, just in terms of time and expense, that he must have decided it wasn't worth it.
Besides, he gave his venture a better, more germaine, name and cleverly created an additional revenue opportunity for himself by putting the old URL on the market. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

To be clear, I have nothing against Mr. Farrell or his ethics -- just didn't think the site was right for ME. _________________ Diane

I would change the name too. I wouldn't want anyone confusing a site with V123. I would want to distance any site from any negativity in the industry. Who knows, he could have got a threat from Alex and crew. However hollow it may be it could still be a major time and $ consuming ordeal. _________________ Gregory Best

It just seems strange that the date on the offer to sell the URL was very early in July and the best I could tell the site had just been up a short while.
Maybe getting the site up and running and then selling it was the actually business plain.
Maybe his new site name will bring him good fortune. I hope so. _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"
