I've had a Logitech marble mouse for while and am trying to find something else that seems a bit more intuitive with Pro Tools on a Mac
I've used a scroll wheel with ProTools and Audition in Windows and was able to do some very quick editing....
any suggestions for a mouse with ProTools on a Mac? |

In case it wasn't obvious, any USB mouse will work on a Mac.
Pick one you like and use it. I use my scrollwheel ALL the time while editing to zoom in/out. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

George,
Is there a setting in ProTools that needs to be checked off in order to get the scroll wheel to work? I've never been able to use the wheel for zooming, like in Sound Forge or Audition. BTW, I'm on a Mac Mini.

Probably want to steer clear of bluetooth meeses while working with Pro Tools on a Mac. I just use an old Dell USB. I also use Logitech. Both with right and left clickers.

Steve,
I'm not George, but I think you'll find that if you hold down the "alt" key you'll be able to zoom in and out in Pro Tools with the scroll wheel. Hold the "shift" key and you can scroll left and right. _________________ Be well,

you can scroll wheel/horizontal zoom with Alt on PC...
I'm assuming its command (apple) key on a MAC
any one have any luck with the Apple Mighty Mouse?
the Kensington Orbit Trackball is pretty much the industry standard amongst the heavy duty users... pretty pricey though.. |

Haven't used ProTools in a while, but here's some info that might be helpful. |

In the Digidesign Mac OS X optimization literature they state: "Turning off AirPort and Bluetooth"
If your computer is equipped with Bluetooth wireless and/or an AirPort card, these may need to be disabled for Pro Tools to work correctly.
I have one bluetooth mouse (a Logitech) and a few years ago I tried it out on my audio Mac. It worked fine, but I decided to use it exclusively with my office Macbook. I was aware of the above warning, so I just decided to steer clear of Bluetooth with Pro Tools. I have no idea if Pro Tools has shelved this caveat or not.

Interesting. I missed that warning. I've always used a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard (and Airport) with Pro Tools.
Maybe that's why I haven't landed the lead role in a Pixar feature yet. |

i tried posting this yesterday but it didn't take..
Just wanted to preach using a FOUR BUTTON MOUSE with ProTools. My favorites are the Microsoft "Intellimouse" series. Works with Mac or PC. But last week got a Logitech working fine on ProTools 8 on a Mac.
Over the years I've gotten so used to this, i get flustered when it's NOT set up this way - the mouse buttons invoke the "Grabber", the "Selector", the "Trimmer" and the "Zoom Magnifying Glass". I find it's much faster to click the mouse than use the keyboard to rapidly toggle through these tools (forget about mousing over to click the icon !)
Here's how I set mine up:
Left Button: Click
Right Button: Type F7 ("Selector")
Wheel Button: Type F8 ("Grabber")
Front Thumb Button: Type F5 ("Magnifying Glass")
Rear Thumb Button: Type F6 ("Trimmer")
The Wheel still scrolls vertically and horizontally.
Also, as I learned last week, you can only use ONE Microsoft Intellimouse per computer this way. But you can use Microsoft AND Logitech on the same computer. _________________ Jeff Berlin
