Hello all,

Searched the archives here but did not find relevant information to my question. I'm wondering what you folks have done to either a)have someone design your website for you or b)designed your own website with WYSIWYG software?

My issue is that, where I live, there are no really decent, affordable web designers. And I hear they take forever. My goal is to get something online quickly that looks fairly decent, and have my demo files posted there. Look forward to everyone's comments.

PS I remember a few years ago there was a post on how to embed the sound files with a play button on your webpage; for example, like Jeffrey Kafer (and several of you) have on your sites.

I designed my own (marymckitrick.com) with Dreamweaver and occasional emergency calls to a few people on this board.

There are several excellent designers right here in our midst as well, including the lovely and talented DB Cooper and the lovely and talented Lou Zucaro. I believe they do not take forever - their forever at least is much shorter than yours if you're starting from scratch in your knowledge of web design.

Thanks mcm. And no, I was not referring to anyone here that took forever; I was referring to what I've heard about local website creators in my area of Forgottonia (West Central Illinois).

Where and what is Forgottonia? Have a look at the link below:

You shouldn't need a local designer - it's on the web after all.
Pick up the phone or search for designers online in top ten metros or big college towns.
I designed and maintain my own voice over website with CoffeeCup software and lunarpages.com hosting.

It's a bit clunky, but my clients like it and more importantly it's effectively built for my SEO targets. I don't care about having any flash or snazzy graphics. It works.

Clean layout +
Good demos+
Effective SEO and good content=
Good Voice over Website.

I also heart Lou Zucaro, but not inappropriately.

I've gotten several positive comments about my site - simple and clean.

I designed my own using Dreamweaver. Nothing fancy. If you have some cash, you can go with Village Green Studios. They're very pretty, but fairly cookie cutter. I'd go with DB or Lou if I was in the market.

I felt comfortable enough to design my own site, though I did hire someone to design the logo. If I hadn't done my own site design, I likely would have enlisted the services of one of the fine folks here.

I couldn't for the life of me find the flash player thread...but here is the site where you can get it.

I'm also a fan of D.B. & Lou's work.

I had someone else do my site based on recommendation of another member. It wasn't cheap, but I'm more than satisfied with the results, and at the end of the day that's what counts.

When it comes to that kind of stuff, your budget has to be one of the first considerations, but not your sole consideration. Too often, when you buy cheap, you get cheap. I'd rather pay more & have a site I'm complimented on, rather than have a site which doesn't represent the business well (because it's a poor quality product).

Folks, I really appreciate all the info here. It's made me determine that, in my situation, the best way to go would be to hire someone. Mainly for the fact that I can focus on getting the CONTENT of the website (i.e. the demos) the way I want it, and not that and the website.

One of my main stumbling blocks to getting myself started in this field has been getting a website online. While I realize there is more to being a voiceover talent than just having a web presence, the websites all of you fine folks have shows me that it is vital to have a professional-looking webpage. While I'm sure I could create my own, the time it would take and the potential frustration it could cause tells me my energy would be better spent focusing on other things, like creating great demos and self-promotion.

One final note; I am overwhelmed by the amazing talent here on VO-BB. I've checked out several of your websites and demos; thanks for the inspiration!
