brain trust - i am getting a (random?) interference of some kind. i THINK it might have to do with AA3 and my MOTU 896HD - but i really don't have anything to base that assumption on.

since this happens both on record & playback - i'm thinking some kind of buffer over run-thingy ... maybe ... it does it on AA start-up sometimes too.

it looks like this:

anyway - it sounds like this

any help is appreciated - it doesn't happen all the time - but it's kinda driving me batty.

** edit to add chain:

AT4050 > studio projects VTB1 pre (everything @ high noon) > MOTU 896HD > adobe audition 3.0

I know this isn't helpful at all Todd, but that really sounds mechanical to me! Although there's some definite 'electrical' interference as well. I'll be very interested to hear what the big guns think!

I know that since it's pretty random when it happens it will be next to impossible to isolate the source by unplugging piece by piece, but if it were me, I'd start at the mic and work my way towards the computer. I don't know why, but my first thought is that there's something wrong with the mic capsule... nothing to base that on, just my gut.
