Yeah, the stuff we're seeing at the "horizon" 13.7 billion light years distant?...that's where it was and what it looked like 13.7 billion years ago. Today? No one knows.
Interesting postulation I've seen recently: As we learned just a while back, everything in the known Universe is expanding, and at a faster and faster pace. The postulation goes on to say that stuff beyond the horizon may be achieving speeds faster than the speed of light, which bumps up against the core belief that matter can't exceed the speed of light. Unless you buy the science fiction notion of Warp Speed in which you can travel in multiples of the speed of light.
One of my regrets of not living forever is I'll most likely never get to know how some of this turns out.
