Anyone else listening in to the edge teleconference this evening? I wonder if Mr. Banks and Mr. Souer will be as full of sunshine in LA as these folks seem to be. Shocked

Having met Mr. Souer I can guarantee that he'll be full of sunhine and smiles as he always is. and it's 100% genuine. I can't attest for Mr.
Banks since I've never met him. It's my understanding that he may look up occasionally from his coloring book and grunt.

What percentage was sales pitch and how good we are???

I sat in on one once with another New Yorker that was 85-90% pure sales. I have better things to do with my time.

Aw, Chrissy, you are too kind. Thank you. My hope is that our panel in LA will consist mostly of answering questions rather than having us on the panel waffle on at length. Oh, and I love to colour too. I hope Philip with share a few crayons with me while we're there. Wink

Was this the "Experts predict what 2010 will bring" and the panel consisted of no one with any proven expertise in the area of business forecasting, Voice Over forecasting or any genuine expertise in any particular area.

Business survival tip No1 - Ask what appears to be the awkward question. For a person with a genuine, informed answer it is never an awkward question.

Business survival tip No1 - Remove from you Voice Over career all the things you believe are professional activities but are really distractions. One example is asking another VO for feedback on your demo. If you want open and honest feedback ask the VO for a referal to a client as it'll test 2 things. How good he really thinks you are and how comfortable he is with his place in the market.

Bingo, Mr. Banks. Bingo! And thanks for the tips... didn't even have to pay a nickle for those.

What Philip said.

I listened to a podcast done by one of the 'experts' on this panel and, while there were, perhaps, one or two good business points made, I wasn't at all impressed by the quality of the VO recording on several levels (not just technical). I found as much credibility there as one might expect from a doctor who smokes.

Weather forecasters have gotten somewhat better over the decades using technology that helps them learn from patterns. But weather can still change in 20 minutes. And - after the events of the past two years - can we really believe what we're told about the financial and housing markets?

Experts?

We can really only believe in ourselves, and learn to roll with the punches as best we can.

Ouija, anyone?

Why thank you Moe. Smile

Having worked in sales, having family in Real Estate (I prefer Faux Estate myself), and having worked as an audio engineer on countless seminars and corporate and motivational events I am highly skeptical of seminars and other such tools of the American "You Can Do It!" Economy. America was built on stern self reliance...but not built on feel-good cheesiness.

Edison didn't need this kind of BS, and nor did the Titans of VO.

You can have all the positive mental attitude you want, but you still have to get out there and sweat.
