Used to watch this happen on the Somerset Levels about 20 miles from where I used to live.

They are like their very own, large organism, doing a modern dance number in the sky.

Wouldn't want to be right underneath them though while they're doing that.

I've seen occasional morphing flocks like that around here, though I'm not sure they're starlings. I caught one mass on video just outside work. I was sitting on the front steps, and the group ended up flying straight over the awning above my head. The camera capture just didn't do it justice. It was breathtaking....and yes, I was glad that they didn't unleash anything upon me.
