I'll be leaving at the end of the month for a 2 1/2 wk trip to Europe and need to get my act together (4 trips to the ER by family members in the last month have cut into my ability to concentrate on this). I'm cobbling together a mobile studio with my brother-in-law's help. He has a lap top with two USB 2.0 ports (and a 7-port hub if necessary) and Audacity and an Edirol UA 20 interface. And current conversion thingy. I have microphones but I guess I need to bring something like a little Behringer UB802 which I will have to buy because mine had to retire due to hissing. Is there something better but still inexpensive that I should get instead?
I would actually love not to have to bring an expensive microphone. If I got a Samson C01U would I not need anything but the laptop and recording software?
Am I missing anything? Oh - what about a cable and stand?
Rejoicing in advance for your help |

Mary - I took a Samson C01U to Oz, and it worked GREAT - even for broadcast jobs. I plugged it into a laptop there with an internal soundcard, and Cool Edit. The USB plugs directly into the laptop. Great sound!
Have a great trip love!

She's all up on that, Kevin-- although she called them Current Converters.

Can anybody recommend a good mic stand for travel? I just got quite a nice little stand from Sweetwater but the base is so *&#*ing heavy there's no way I want to take it with me. |

At the radio stations we have a desktop stand that sits on a small tripod as opposed to one of those heavy disc looking bases. I went to look and see who made it, but our remote rig is in Charlotte at the moment so it's not there. I want to say it's Musician's something or other or maybe Pro something. Pretty sure we got it from either Sam Ash or Guitar Center. Sounds like just what you may be looking for.
EDIT: a quick google search and BAM!
Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand
The only thing is they don't work real well with the heavy mics. It does fine with the SM58 we usually use, has some trouble with an RE20. I wouldn't even dare to try putting my NT1000 on it. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Does anyone own (or know anyone that owns) one of those new Blue Snowball USB mics?
I've often wondered if that and a laptop with wireless connection would work for traveling auditions.
