Have any of you received the email below? Are they legit? My first thought was to hit the delete...
Thoughts and opinions welcomed

Yeah. Several months ago I received that email. They put up an FTP for the demo samples. I, along with a few other VO's I know or know of, uploaded some demos in the formats requested. Since then ---crickets--- _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

They emailed me in November. I immediately put on my researcher's hat and found that they appear to be legit; being part of a larger company doing business in India for some time.
I happily sent the demo they requested, but I have not heard anything.
We really do have to stop and think for a few minutes before we hit the delete key. As the internet has made global business easier and brought it to those of us who otherwise would never have the opportunity or the means to work with foreign clients, there are going to be occasional communication issues between people of different lands and cultures. By hastily deleting messages without first doing a little checking, we could be closing a door of opportunity. We audition for roles all the time and may not hear anything for months. What is the harm in submitting a demo to someone who ASKS for one, even though we may not hear anything immediately?
Yes, I can quickly become suspicious, too. And I've shot myself in the foot a few times already because of it. A red flag would go up over someone I'd never done business with who asked me to record and send a dry voice track of a script they sent. But ignoring someone's request for a dry demo of material we come up with - regardless of where they are located - can send the wrong message. Would we turn and walk away from someone who asked for a demo or business card at a networking function? Aren't there already too many countries that don't like Americans for one reason or another? Let's not give them any more reasons... and turn down potential business at the same time. _________________ Mike

Couldn't have written it better, Mike.
I meant to add in my earlier post, a client of mine and good friend in India checked them out for me. His report was that they were legit, albeit slow to move. I've never had a bad experience working with clients abroad. All my deadbeats are American made. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

I just got the same mail too. I just mentioned in another post.
My problem with it is the use of a gmail address for a "global" company.
On the other hand, it takes 2 minutes to type a reply, attach a demo and send... I tend to follow these through until I get the "we need your bank details and signature on faxed contract to complete the payment", at which point I stop. _________________ Mandarin Chinese Voiceovers & Localization

I received it and deleted it. I do work with some companies overseas, but in general, am very leery. I don't have alot of time to do research. So, I'm not trying to be a rude American. I just don't respond well to mass mailings from people in other countries. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!
