I've got to remember that one... sooo true. | Except that it's a mixed metaphor. The Pied Piper didn't blow smoke. _________________ Publisher: Voice Actors in the News

Right, Craig, except the Pied Pipers I refer to in this forum (and with regard to the voice-over industry in general) are those who call themselves 'voice-over coaches' but who really have microscopically little to teach and make up for that deficit with unnecessary fluff (some of it half-truths and some outright falsehoods), and who tell the unsuspecting hopefuls what they want to hear (you, too, can soon be on your way to a six-figure income) because their only goal is to sell demo packages.
(Why someone becomes a Pied Piper rather than a real coach: It's so much easier to advertise on one's website membership in an organization of speech and voice instructors whose only requirement for affiliation is an annual fee of less than $100, then tell the naive they have great potential, give them a flimsy workbook, have them come in for a half-dozen or so classes of watered-down content held together by cheesecloth, and then put them in the booth to record what turns out to be a hastily - and most often badly - produced demo. {source: first-hand knowledge of one such entity}) _________________ Mike

I don't know if the folks at CBS Sunday Morning are web illiterate or elitist.
This is the second segment from this program I have wanted to see and they don't post on their web. They reference it in a show line up but do not post the video. I've even Googled it...nada
Now may I'LL be proven web illiterate if someone now finds it. _________________ - Peter

This was a good piece for the audience - most people don't even know what a voice over is, so using three voices that work on the show was a good idea, and not self-serving, imo. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I did not watch the piece but my mother did. Based on her synopsis, I'd say the story must have done a pretty decent job of describing our profession to those who are less than familiar with it. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I thought it was a good piece - didn't think Nancy was self-serving at all. She made a bare mention of herself in comparison to the others. I was thrilled to see the focus on Candice. She was one of the great hosts on NYC's classical music station for about 15 years - til the station was sold recently. Did rock before that - and dances flamenco. |

I withdraw my earlier comment. Not having seen this I have no legitimate reason to criticize. _________________ Publisher: Voice Actors in the News

I enjoyed that but lost interest about half through simply because someone was showing me what I did at work today. Real people would've found it a nice piece whilst many VOICE ACTORS would've reacted in such a way as to prove how far up themselves they really are...shame on us! |

I still like watching other voiceoverists at work, just in case they're doing something different....ya know, pick up some new mad skilz. Turns out they put on their voice just like we do, one chord at a time.

Thanks for posting that link, Dan-O. My attempt at recording it Sunday morning failed. The story was better than I expected it would be. |

Not a bad story. Thanks for the link, Dan! And thanks to Craig for the link to the vocal fold info. Quite fascinating to see what's really happening! _________________ Justin S. Barrett

And for what it's worth, the term is vocal CORD.
Not
CHORD.
In spite of how well some folks sing with 'em. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |
