I am in the final phases of setting up my home studio. Aside from little nitpicky items, the last big purchase I have to make is the computer.
My question to you is...
Do you prefer a laptop or a regular desktop/tower unit?
I've been going back and forth between the two options. I'll likely get a PC since I use Adobe Audion for editing... |

I have Audition on my desktop and my laptop. I far and away prefer using a desktop. Easier to set up a comfortable layout, better screen choices (size and even multiple monitors if you want). If I had to choose one, I'd say desktop first.
I use my laptop when I travel. I hate having to bend down over the monitor when editing, the heat the thing throws off if its actually in my lap, squinting at the screen etc. Plus it's a bit noisier than my desktop. But if mobility is important to you it's the way to go. I reccomend getting a mouse though. It's hard to make precise edits with a touchpad.
One other thing, I must be hard on my laptop. I've crashed 2 hard drives in the past year. So everything on it is duplicated on the desktop. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

I got a G4 Powerbook for recording because it is completely silent.
The heat dissipates through the entire body-- the shell is aluminum.
It sits on my desk very neatly and doesn't reflect much sound.
The the heavy duty stuff, like video editing, I use my tower which is on a cart next to my desk but still fills the room with noise. Drives me nuts. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |
