I posted a video blog about a very simple way to mount your mic on a super compact folding camera tripod so you can travel light and do double duty with one gadget. Though y'all might like to see it...

This place offers a single bushing that does the job going from 1/4" up to 5/8" 20 thread:

and I'm sure there are others out there.

That is a great idea, George! In fact I may try this with one of those Gorillapods that has the bendable legs that can hang from or attach to things.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/470237-REG/Joby_GP3_A1EN_Gorillapod_SLR_Zoom_Flexible_Mini_Tripod.html

When traveling, I often set up a makeshift booth in the closet of a hotel room by hanging several of the extra blankets up inside etc. Now I can use one of the Gorilla stands to grab onto the metal rack shelf that most of the hotel closets have to hang the mic up. And I will have a handy little tri-pod for my camera too.

Very cool... Very cool indeed.

Hmmnn... Need a new travel mic. Might have to try out one of these as well.

Wow, very cool! I'm so tired of lugging the stand that weighs a ton and gets me searched all the time.. Hmm, time for a visit to B&H -

I have one of those Gorilla Pods like Bens! It doesn't seem like it would support a mic. I'll have to experiment!

Actually, if you look again, that's a two piece system exactly the same as I demonstrated.
If you DO find a single piece that does this, let me know. Believe me I looked thoroughly.

I did consider doing this with the Gorilla Pod, but it's just so bulky in comparison.

I wish I'd read this quote before going to B&H Tuesday. They had no idea what I meant about a one-piece adapter. Also, what a huge and busy place that is! I got my stuff, but mail-order would've been way quicker. This should be a great kit--Thanks George.

Hmmmmm. Well, I own a one piece adapter that I got from somewhere in the misty distant past. Someone's got to have 'em I'm thinkin'.

Just got my GorillaPod and the adapter from BH came yesterday. I put an SM58 in the mic holder (just to test weight) that I attached and it works great standing on a table. So it will definitely hold a 416. Not sure about a heavier mic. I can try it if someone really wants to know. I will be hanging mine from the closet rack in various hotels when I set up my make shift hotel booth.

Just wanted to report back. Thanks again for the idea, George!

Also thought it would be handy if having to record in a car to have the GorillaPod. Tried it and it hangs nicely from headrest posts when sitting in the back seat.

Awesome. That's what I was visualizing! Can't wait to try it.

Cool. Glad to help, Amy. Not that I am always doing VO in a car....but I know some have and it actually is a pretty decent sounding environment to record as long as you are not driving (obviously) and are away from all the noise.

Stopped by B&H the other day - picked up a smaller version of the gorillapod that's really not supposed to suport the weight of my traveling mic (akg perception 120) and it doesn't - on a tabletop. But it hangs nicely from the rod in the closet. A lot less expensive too and the top articulates on this one. Funny, they have these in different colors - each color is a different price. I got the least expensive - I don't mind hot pink

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/519601-REG/Joby_GP1_APEN_Gorillapod_Flexible_Mini_Tripod_Grip_f_.html

and while I was there, picked up one of these too - just to try them both. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/154666-REG/K_M_23110_500_01_Table_Top_Tripod_Microphone.html works fine on a tabletop as long as I adjust the swivel mount so the mic is tilted backwards. Otherwise the whole thing tips over.
