Memorial Day makes me ask "Did we fight in WWI for 48 hr. Furniture Sales and Instant Rebates on Pick Up Trucks"?
I think the answer is yes, actually...or maybe it had something to do with the Austrian-Hungarian Empire - or really the Civil War before that. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I would say that these people-- much braver and physically fit than me (hereafter: "we")-- fight for more than "Mike Mason's Midnight Memorial Mattress Madness" and "Buy 12, Get One Month Free" retainer contract fishing like the one I'm holding for the next 22hrs ONLY!....
We fight for family. For the mom in Arizona who just turned on her local HD PBS station, KAET "Eight Delivers", to hear up-and-coming new talent, Chadd Pierce, offer his 'friendly & warm, yet cool & young' promo voice to another bold affiliate station.
And we fight for frozen Coke. Like the one Peter Thomas is narrating the campaign for. You'll never forget hearing that voice go: "HI-YAAAH!"
DIY. That's right, we fight to do it all by ourselves. If not for the DIY'ers, we wouldn't have blankets and old couch cushions hanging in the closet, huddled around a jury-rigged mic stand with a badass classic '71 U87 hanging like a diamond necklace around banana gone bad. Sucker plugs into a V737, too. Might be a rabbit cage and some empty shoeboxes between the two... but it's going on. There should be laws against sound so good.
But most of all, we fight to power holidays that feed to our economy a big helping of red white and blueberry pie: The seasonal explosion of flags, t-shirts, hot dogs, parade floats, and the electricity company powering the many blinking lights in front of creative writer/producer-types who keep on plugging away at goofy PSA-spoofs and posting them online.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend, All!! _________________ Chadd Pierce

i spent 2 hours on the phone with my brother in-law yesterday. some of you may remember that 8 months ago his MRAP was blown up by 150 pounds of explosive in afghanistan. he is still at brooke army medical center in san antonio - but doing much better - probably still 6 - 9 months from coming home, though. anyway - the conversation was, to a large degree, about the outpouring of love and respect these guys get everywhere they go. on their day-trips throughout the region, dinners, banquets, etc. he is so moved by the crowds that turn up to thank them & wish them well. so - to any and all of you who have ever waived a flag at a parade - i say thank you from the bottom of my heart. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
