I don't remember what it's called, but I have loads of it in my studio. I have a drop ceiling made with 2'x4' panels of it and several pieces of it on my walls and it covers the inside of my studio door. Mine were made from aspen shavings (much like the old pads for evaporative coolers we have here in the desert) and they're glued and compressed into these sheets. Mine were painted white by the manufacturer. If I remember they were at least as pricey as foam products. The theory is that sound gets trapped in all those nooks and crannies. It's worked fine for me.

Thank so much to everyone for the info...especially to Edo for taking time to make calls and get a picture. Wow! You all are awesome!
And the jokes were classic too All were great...but Amy wins with Wheat Thicks! LOL! But she has stand up comedy in her genes, so she is a ringer.
Thanks again everyone! Off to buy some OC 703 I go. _________________ Ben

Looks dangerous! (I began to itch when I opened the link.)
Maybe break off a piece and ... smoke it. If it doesn't light--use it for insulation or sound-deadening. If it does--tell us the results of your trip when you come down.

It's called Tektum (spelling?) here. I remember seeing it in backstage areas and also the first studio we ever worked in had it on some of the ceilings. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Tectum it is. More specifically, I believe it might be a product made by Tectum called SoniCor.
