Tom, I'd like to hear a weather forecast like that nowadays. I know as a viewer, that's often my reaction to the radar.
-----------
Way back when (cue the harp music) our old-timer morning guy and younger morning news guy were always going at it, with varying levels of success. The newsguy was easy to break up and the morning guy knew it. But the listener never really heard the news man crack. He would just kill his mic while he laughed his arse off and tried to regain his composure. As a result there were just these awkwardly l o n g silences, Then a few more words of the story, more silence, etc.
Until one day when during the newscast, the morning guy stood up on the countertop, back to the newsman, feet astride the turntable. He then parted his legs a bit more and proceeded to trickle coffee from his coffee cup, from about waist high down to an out-of-sight coffee cup below the edge of the counter.
You can picture it, I'm sure.
Let's just say there was a long period of silence, during which the chief engineer ran up to the studio, certain we had gone off the air. The best part was how well the morning man could play innocent.
Ah, the beauty of small to medium market radio. |

"Look at this big-a$$ complex of storms over southern Wisconsin!" |
Oh geeze - - you just reminded me of something I had forgotten years ago.
I was doing a newscast, I had just quoted some obvious phony baloney pompous sleazy windbag loser politician - and I swear to gawd I don't remember saying it, but - they later told me I muttered something like "who the hell does this jerk think he's strokin' with that crap?". |
