Old school but very usuable Gentner phone patch routed through Mackie 1202VLZ.
Problem--I can't hear the client! Well, I can but they sound like they're on Mars. I haven't done anything different, but something has changed. I route it into Line in 2 and the output is going to Aux Send 2--they have no problem hearing me .
I have been controlling their sound coming to me by using only the Gain control at the bottom of the channel. The Trim is set to 0. The channel is ALT 3/4'd, so it isn't going to the recording, just to my headphones.
When I turn the Gain up, not only does it turn up their voice, but unfortunately also my own. My question is, should I instead be doing most of the control of the incoming volume by using the Trim knob, perhaps at Unity, and just making minor tweaks with the Gain control.
I'd appreciate any answers on this because it's becoming embarrassing. I can hear them just fone when I pick up the actual phone, but when the patch is engaged, they're very, very faint.
Thanks guys |

I have a similar setup...I run my caller out to the ST RETURN in Plug In "L" then turn up the STEREO RETURN knob to desired volume.
The problem with using a channel is that the trim has no affect on the caller volume when using LINE IN. The pot on that channel will increase the caller though. I would first recommend that you check all connections then go from there. If your caller is coming in on ALT 3/4, then make sure you have "ALT 3/4" button depressed to control room source mode. Also make sure the "ALT 3/4" knob is turned up.
Hope this helps. _________________ Does life start at 40? |

Thanks Kasey--Yet, hmmmm, when I bring the trim to unity, things do seem way better. |

Really? My trim pots dont have any affect when I am plugged into Line In. Interesting, now I must play around with mine a bit.
What does the chain look like in terms of how it's routed from the gentner into the board, and how is the Mic connected in the chain? _________________ Does life start at 40? |

Upon further testing, I in fact do have the ability to increase the caller volume with the trim pot only when plugged into channel 1 or 2. These are mono channels. I was experimenting on channel 3 earlier which is a stereo channel, hence the disconnect of the trim pot when plugged into TRS Left (or mono) which would be Line In 3. I learn new things every day. _________________ Does life start at 40? |
