As voiceoverists you NEED to know this.
At this time of year you say "Happy Christmas (or happy holidays if you prefer) and best wishes for the new year"
Switch everything else off and try not to say
"Hi everybody this is Philip Banks of Philipbanks.com, philipbanks.co.uk, top international voice over talent and voiceoverist and I'd just like to say to you now using my top voice talent voice that as chief executive of Philipbanks.com and philipbanks.co.uk that I wish you and your family and loved ones and all the clients who hire my top voice a happy christmas, happy holiday and a prosperous voice success new years in 2011" - Finish with sincere smile |

Yep. If you're sending a holiday card, sign it with your name, not your business name. Don't get them printed with your logo. And for goodness sake, don't slip a business card in the envelope. _________________ Jeff

Methinks I know what prompted this pithy post. Something tells me it's a good thing that I didn't get involved after all. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

We get a fair number of holiday cards each year from businesses and I don't really mind them that much. What I DO mind are the kind that are so crassly commercial that they are a squick. The community of businesses that send them to us, however, is connected to the astronomy outreach we all do, and all of us know each other in an extended-family sort of way. That makes it less crass when a nice card in a creamy envelope shows up with the company name engraved on it and a personal note inside from the sales rep or owner or whoever mentioning how nice it was to have dinner in Chicago in June, or whatever.
We send out an all-purpose holiday letter that is personal enough to let people know that we're doing okay, we value their friendship, and we take the time to thank our colleagues for being friends as well as business associates. But, as I said, it's a small, close-knit community and Mark and I are a well-known part of that community.
But yeah, I have also gotten a card or two that are one point short of being a sales pitch... knowwhutimean? And, don't get me started on the email blasts that are just a "Happy Holidays, oh by the way, you wanna use my voice/product/etc. in the coming year, just call, no really, here's my phone number, cell number, private email, and my agent's name..."
This is not to say that I don't want email holiday cards -- I've gotten some very creative and imaginative ones this year and like the idea that they're sort of "Carbon-free". And, as I said, I'm sending electronic myself this year, mostly due to being too sick this past week to get out and get christmas cards, stamps, etc. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

As usual, Philip is so right.
Happy Holidays to all!
Now, please excuse me. I have to go deliver some chocolates to clients to remind them to hire me again next year. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

That's another lesson. How does a vo double the value of a clients company? Send them a bar of chocolate! |

oh crap! these just went out the door yesterday...
"As the Holiday Season is upon us, we find ourselves reflecting on the past year and on those who have helped to shape our business in a most significant way. We gratefully acknowledge and extend our warmest appreciation to you for your business and value our relationship with you and look forward to working with you in the year to come, with sincere wishes for a very happy Holiday Season, a New Year filled with peace and the opportunity to share in your prosperity."
But seriously.
Happy Holidays. _________________ Mikey ... Vox-Versatiliti
