Amy:

There's two modes I'm thinking of when you're working. The first is you're recording. You want the audio from your mic to go two places: Audition to record your voice and Skype so the other party can hear you.

When doing this, you should

* Set the Monitor/Mix switch to "Mix".
* Set the ST1 channel with "Record" off and "Listen" on.
* Set the "Record", "Aux" and "Playback" buttons on the right to on.

The other party will hear what comes out of the mixer- in this case, your voice, just as it goes to Audition. You will hear their voice from Skype in your headphones and can adjust the volume with the level knob on the ST1 channel.

When you want to play back already-recorded audio to your remote party:

* Punch the "Aux" button on the right to off (you will no longer hear their voice until it's back on)
* Punch "Monitor Source" to "Phones".
* Play back the recorded audio.
* Punch "Monitor Source" to "Mix".
* Punch the "Aux" button to on, so you can hear them once more.

I'd guess for about 90% of the time you'll be in mode 1 and they'll hear you recording as you do it, just like a producer was in the booth next door and talking to you. They can hear you record it, provide feedback and you record again, etc. At the end you can take the entire session and either edit it or just send it raw.

If they want to hear something you just recorded or maybe recorded earlier, you can punch over to that.

Make sense? Smile

From experience, the ZED10 buttons and signal path are VERY different from a Behringer or Mackie, so don't get confused and RTFM closely. The Record buss is totally unique from the Mackie, and the Listen buss is the same as Solo on a Mackie. The ZED10's USB routing makes it impossible to do a feedback loop from the computer's recording input, so no need to worry about a mix minus there.

It's ONLY shortcoming is a lack of mute buttons. It doesn't have inserts where you can plug in a guitar amp effects footswitch to cut signal, either. If you want to kill the mic, just turn down the channel fader for the mic. Another important note is that the FX send is POST fader, the AUX send is PRE fader. Which means you better use the FX send if you want to have way to kill the mic's signal to phone/Skype easily.

Is this a record for detailed, step by step assistance for one user's issue on VO-bb yet? At least others can reference this later, which is why I like this sort of dialogue to be in a Forum and not direct message.

Just to make things even more fun I realized there is yet another option. Using the existing audio interface being used for recording, you could patch it into the mixer and not even use the mixer's usb interface. Just run the headphone port of the other interface to channel 2 on the zed 10, and change the connection from the zed to Skype to run from the aux send on the mixer instead using the single 1/4" to 1/8" cable. turn up aux send on channel 2 to send a part of the signal to Skype.

advantages: no changes needed for playback or recording, keeps same audio interface and therefore sound characteristics that Amy is used to. Might require one more cable, a 1/4 to 1/4 trs.

.

That's how it should be done as I had said in an earlier post. Aux Send to the Skype PC, that way ANY audio on the board can get sent to the Skype PC by sending it to Aux. Skype PC audio can return to any channel on the board. It's the simplest way to achieve the desired result.

Indeed, Kasey- in my case I don't do it that way for various reasons, but I may switch it up. I curretly like having the USB interface be the mixer, but it may work better to use the fast track and make the mixer be a more traditional mixer.

Well, all the stuff is here now...I think. I got pretty confused starting a couple of pages back! I'm hoping that Mike will ride over on his white horse and make sense of all this for me...

Yay, Amy's good to go. We spent some time getting her all hooked up and going through the various settings on the mixer and her recording interface, and tested it- works like a charm!

I'm as pleased as punch. Laugh

Wow. will you come to Connecticut? I'm currently trying to adsorb all 4 pages of that info...

A moment of silence, please, for the days when all we had to do was talk...of course, then I'd be out trying to drive in all this snow and ice,
Thanks, all!
