I love that the National Animation Society's award is a kinescope. Laugh

What a wonderful video. I don't think I've ever seen footage of Daws before. Thanks for posting this, Mike!

Yup, you're correct. I had been reading about kinescopes earlier and the term leapt to the front of my mind.

Still, very cool. Thanks for the link.

Love Daws, especially his collaborations with Stan Freeberg.
He showed the gold 78 for "Saint George and the Dragonnet" a parody on Jack Webb and the Dragnet series.
Saint George was going after the fire breathing dragon who was devouring madens.
Daws -- playing a knave.
(Say didn't I pick you up for stealing tarts?)
Daws: Say, how you gonna catch him?
Freeberg: I thought you'd never ask. A dragon-net!

Daws: Say, you take that 45 automatic down to the lab to have 'em check on it?
Freeberg: Yes, you were right.
Daws: I was right?
Freeberg: Yes. It was a gun.
That video showed what he was really like. without a doubt.

thank you, mike, for the most wonderful start-to-a-day i have had in a long time.

daws was/is one of my voiceover heroes and i patterned many of my own early voices after his work. in the process, without knowing it, i learned a lot about timing, pacing, and acting with the voice. the more i've been able to learn about this wonderful man the more i regret never having a chance to meet him and thank him.

this video is the next best thing. i got a little misty there toward the end.

again...many thanks.
