If you remember the questionnaire I threw out in 2010 asking "If you had a plugin, what would you want?" Well, I forwarded everything over to my buddy at WaveArts and here you have it - Wave Arts Dialog.

Supports VST, DirectX and RTAS.

--- 10 minutes later ----

The De-Noise options someone asked for are implemented so well, i just don't believe it. WOW!!

Looks very nice. I'll have to grab a copy of the demo and tinker about with it.

Hmmm. I never been very impressed by noise reduction, de breath or even de hum plugins, they always leave a sticky residue artifact to contend with.

Do you know where he got the algorithms??

Thanks for thinking of the VO world and acting upon the idea Kevin. I have been playing with the demo for several hours trying to break it (LOL) and the plug-in is resilient.

Definatly has some possibilities.

Thank you for the follow through.

Has anyone tried "Reaper"?

I'm fooling around with the 30 day demo, and although for many, it might be overkill, but if you do production, imaging, etc it's worth a look..

Pretty impressive, but why does "De-Hum" add reverb to the sound?
I have a lot of playing to do, but that was the first thing I tried.

Mike, I've had a casual acquaintance with one of the programmers since he was programming Cakewalk in the mid 90s. We both play the Chapman Stick. I can pass his information your way if you really want to know....

Frank, agreed ... tons of possibilities.

George, I never made it to De-Hum. I just don't have a need for that (at the moment). I'll take a longer look at it tomorrow as I'm curious to try a very specific tuning.

You know software just keeps evolving over time and they said this was essentially the first milestone they were after for the the release candidate. I'm glad they made it here. WaveArts as a company earned my respect years ago after Bruce turned me on to one of their plugins, but knowing they seriously used the data we provided made this memorable experience completely pricesless. You just don't see that level of service these days.

I was just curious if he wrote them himself or is he rewriting existing programs. Though I'm sure he won't divulge.

Hits:
Great EQ, compressor
Love the brick-wall hi-pass
Almost a one-stop-shop

Misses:
No Gate
Crazy "reverb artifacts" with De-Hum and De-Buzz
Limiter allows peaks past 0db
A bit buggy, some effects Enabled when not indicated when using presets.

Would love to see a gate in there, then it would be truly a one-stop-shop.
I don't think noise reduction algorithms are an appropriate substitute for a noise gate. I think I can still achieve as good or better results with the AU plugins included with a Mac in a Twisted Wave Effects Stack.

@Mike, I hear you. WaveArts has been around for a while. I think the overall goal with this initial release was for film - cleaning up dialog, etc.

@George, Now that I've had a bit of time with this plugin, I think you pretty much nailed some of the items on my list. However, I didn't notice the bugs you mentioned... I'll drop you a note on FB with Rob's info if you're interested. And the gate, definitely an expander would've been VERY nice.
