Sent an email to a client yesterday advising him of some dates when I would not be available. His response caused me to pause and think.

Grand Philip, for a while there we thought you never took holidays. Will pass on the news.

Cheers

Brian

...and then when we do go on holiday....we bring a portable kit so we can still work.

Group therapy anyone?

Booking out for a vacation is a sure way to drum up a huge amount of business ... during the time you're unavailable. It seems to work every time.

Life is about more than work. It doesn't matter how much you love your work, it's still work, and it puts body and brain in one "place." Vacations are reinvigorating, necessary and mind-expanding, the best of them. And to have broader experiences makes one a better actor if you travel somewhere you have never been, to see new sights, hear different languages or accents. This whole wide world is our workshop.

I have a good friend who doesn't know how to relax. I've asked her,"what was the last book of fiction you read" and she told me she doesn't remember.

Here in the Berkshires, we tend to say, "Ya, I can do that" to almost any job to survive. (prolly the same elsewhere too)

She never slows down and feels GUILTY if she isn't doing something.

Life is about the moments sometimes. You have to stop and let one or two of them visit you.

I've been working on her for 20 years now... she'll break soon and relax, I can tell. I won't give up.
