Howdy boys 'n' girls!
Today I was told for the THIRD time that all my demos play at the same time when they open that page on my website Never happened to me, but aparently it happens to others. And these are just those who have been kind enough to tell me. There's no telling how many other folks have had this experience at my website and not taken the time to tell me.....
My current website is hosted by Intuit (formerly Quicken Small Business).
It's time for a change. I've been wanting to move my stuff over to a wordpress format for a while now, but the biggest issue is not knowing HOW since I need to keep the same url: www.ccheim.com
Anyone here have experience doing this and could offer some words of advice?
Thanks!

CC,
This is not terribly hard, but I don't want to launch into a reply beyond the scope of your question. It requires some hand-holding, and there are lots of variables, and decisions to make along the way.
This is where it might be worth your while to hire a freelance pro to help you, and yes, you can certainly keep your URL.
I have the name of someone who is EXCELLENT, and VERY reasonable. He's helped me with my blog numerous times.

I don't know how good you are with editing code, but in the meantime you can add "autoplay" and set it to "false" The way the mp3's are embedded are a not the best way to embed them since it leaves it up to the individual's browser/plugin settings.
Try, for example, changing this code:
Code: |
<div><font><a></a><br></font></div>
|
to this:
Quote: |
<div><embed>
</embed></div>
|
Then play with the "width" and "height" numbers until it fits.
If you're anti-Quicktime (don't know why, nowadays most browsers use the default player if QT is not available,) then try this instead (not sure this one would work - just an educated guess here) :
Quote: |
<div><embed></embed></div><br>
|
That should stop the demos from autoplaying.

EDIT: The bulletin board stripped my code for some reason. Send me an email or PM and I'll help you with this. |

Hey there,
I was in on a webinar by Laura Roeder who offers a program --"zero to wordpress website" --for about $200 she gives you all the info you need to know to build and maintain your wordpress site. This is probably all info you could get for free if you scoured around the internet for long enough, but my guess is she offers it in a concise, organized and very user-friendly way. I have not used her services yet but it seems like it could be pretty worthwhile, esp if you are starting from scratch. (I already have a wordpress site but someone else put it together for me, so i am sort of clueless on how to manage/change it....)
Good luck.
Oh, the link to her site:

I'm an advocate of Squarespace. Many of the other platforms (Wordpress, Drupal, Movable Type etc) are fine packages, but they do require a large amount of knowledge to keep them current and functional. Those who have the knowledge and experience will extol the virtues of these various platforms (as well they may), but someone selling "free" knowledge for $200 may be a good indication how intuitive they really are for the neophyte or occasional user.
Take a look at Squarespace as a complete hosting and authoring package... it's really very simple and they have some powerful import tools. No risks... two weeks free to try it out (I sound like a shill, but I think they have a good system).
Cheers

Hi there CC- setting up WordPress is pretty simple, assuming your site host supports it (most do). I've set up several sites with it and it's quite easy to manage once you get past some of the basics.
Since you use Intuit's webhosting system, I would venture that you'd need to identify a new webhost first. There's a few very good ones out there. Once you've got one, you can set up an account in very short order, get a temporary address that you can use to set up your new site and get all your content posted, then hit up your domain registrar and transfer DNS.
If you've never tried anything like that it might seem daunting, but it's much less painful than it sounds. If you want some assistance through the process, feel free to drop me a line at corey@voxman.net or send a PM here. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow
