What in blazes is this email promo?
I seem to be getting it from people on this board.
The subject is "Are you taking on new clients?"
And the body is identical in all the emails I've received:
Quote: | If you're taking on new clients, I'd like to include you in my private referral network to send you business leads through Referral Key.
Please accept my invitation below. Thanks! |

Deirdre, I've been getting them, too. Smells like canned, processed meat product. _________________ Brad Venable

I've gotten a couple -- one from a guy I know and one from someone I may be LinkedIn and/or Facebook friends with. And just as with the Branch-Out thing, I fail to see what benefit this might provide above and beyond the social networking I'm already involved in. So into the "Deleted Items" folder they went. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Yup, it's from a site called Referral Key. They don't make it terribly clear exactly what you're getting yourself into when you sign up, and after getting a bunch of those "invitations" today, I poked around the site for a few.
Like lee, I really don't see the big benefit (though I admit that I might be rushing to judgment) and promptly removed all of my info from the site. In particular, I don't like that they don't make it clear that you'll be sending an email invitation (with wording that you have no control over) to folks, when you click on a button that says something like "connect to colleague." _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Got a couple here, too. Set 'em aside until I had time to dig into the site properly, and I'm glad that I did. Spanks, but no spanks. _________________ Justin S. Barrett

Me too - I wasn't impressed by the fact that their last news and blog entry was more than a year ago. And the site was too 'specifically vague' |

This reminds me of another useless site called Naymz. I got invited by somebody I knew and signed up. I believe I eventually connected with about a half dozen other folks, mostly people from here, all of whom subsequently removed themselves from the "service." I kept my account, only because it provided an opportunity to generate an incoming link to my website. They have since changed the "naym" and I periodically get an e-mail from them telling me how many people have visited my profile that week (or month). That number is invariably 0. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I got it, too, and I did sign up, only because it MIGHT give me a tiny bit more SEO. Other than that, though.......
Seems to me there are more and more internet wannabe's who see something like a Google or a Facebook or a Link'd in and think "Hey, I can do that!" and voila! We have this latest fiasco. Makes me think of the search engine Bing, which spends millions on ads to promote itself, and I don't know a soul who uses it. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

What Todd said.
I've received some invites also. Another thing that's untested, unproven and a potential waste of time, like many of these things that come and go. I guess they're all fighting for market share. Deleted the queries.
I feel like I could join everything and spend my entire life online, just hanging out and never work.
What a concept. heh. _________________ Bobbin Beam
