Waves DeBreath is not supported in AA3, Some Waves plugs work, some do not. Audition does not support VST well; even in Adobe's Direct X- less CS-5.

Sorry.

Thanks, Frank! Goodness--I wish I'd known that before I blew the $150. I'll try it in Audition 1.5. I never had trouble with VST's with it...

I think I heard someplace that I could use Waves plugins with DirectX (I have DirectX 11 installed.) Anybody know about that?

(Same problem. I'm hosed. I'm going to have to hire someone to help me finish all this if I can't get it sorted!)

when AA 3 doesn't support a plug-in, it usually means there's a problem with the install.. Mike is right. You have to search for remnants of that plugin and manually delete/uninstall.

I guess I've been lucky with VST plugins in Audition 3. Any time I've had a problem, it's been a save, flush and refresh the plugin folder, and reboot the computer for good measure. Never fails to perform.

As for where they are under Win 7, here are the directories that you'll need to look in:
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Waves
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Waves Audio
C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Waves Preferences

Audition 1.5 cannot monitor the timeline (i.e.: you cannot hear what is being recorded "live" in the timeline). Although AA 3.0 can monitor the timeline, it does not support many VST plug's which are "live" in nature. AA -CS5 does support VST - NOT DX (Direct X) plugins however, it may or may not support the higher end VST such as DeBreath.

This is NOT an install issue. The problem is with Audition and how the program handles VST plugins.

The fine folks at Waves told me that DeBreath is not compatible with Audition 3. I went ahead and upgraded to Audition CS5.5, and DeBreath works like a charm! (Now I just have to figure out the settings--but it's all kindsa cool!)

Crisis averted. Thanks, Guys!

Amy,

You are so cute in crisis. Of course, you're equally cute after the crisis is over. In any case, I'm very glad this one has been dealt with.

Well, now I know. Thanks Amy for the information. And congrats on making it work for you.

the problem is not with the plug-in itself, it's with the Waveshell. In the case of Debreath, its the VocalWaveshell 1.1 thats the issue. I was told by Waves long long ago that there are issues with 1.1 and 1.0.... When you load 1.1, you also load 1.0 and they both conflict... it takes a hell of lot of digging to find 1.0 on your system and in most cases finding it is not worth the effort.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "may or may not support the higher end VST such as DeBreath"... I've got all the API, the L316, the SSL, and the VEQ and thats pretty high up on the Waves chain...they all work like a champ.

Again, its not the plug-in, it's the Waveshell...

Waves in Audition 3.0 works with some of the plugins and not with others. And as I have just found out with other VST plugins such as those designed for my MIDI guitar the noble CS5 does not do well with MIDI VST plugins without a wrapper.

I had stated earlier I did not know enough about AA CS5 other than the program does NOT support Direct X (without a VST wrapper). To repeat myself, AA CS5 may or may not support VST plugins of a certain nature.

It is not the plugin it IS the program which is the culprit. Other VST capable audio editing programs support 1.(x) and now 2.(x) and are almost always backwards compatible. I have written two VST plugins and both are compatible with each VST edition.

Hellooooo! Deirdre Czar has promptly initiated me Laugh - cheers D!

Ok, so, I was searching online for de-breathing info & landed on you guys talking about AA & its hit & miss nature...
Is there any update to this?? Seems you Amy, & Frank F have a lot to input on the subject & I need.. your.. help!

Am about to do a v.v.long piece (audiobook) - normally all my recordings are produced at the "other end". This time I need to do all myself.

I tend to bypass Audition for software called Wavepad, itsvery userfriendly & intuitive, but it doesn't offer "punch record" capability for pickups...as far as I'm aware...??
Do you guys know it??

What's the final verdict on AA5 then? Should I ditch it or is there a useful debreath & de-ess plugin... I never have any luck with NR sampling either TBH; I tend to just noisegate...

Questions questions... looking forward to engaging with you all.

Cheers, from a very-early-in-the-morning-London!
(Oh, I use a PC by the way)
