I reluctantly sold my Lawson awhile ago and now I have a chance to get it back, although I'd have to trade my Rode Classic II in the deal.

I loved the Lawson, but it was the *cardioid-only* version; the Rode is multi-patterned with roll-offs...which is why I like the Classic so much.

I'm sure opinions will be split, though probably in favor of the Lawson...right?

As far as sound, I will say I like both mics about equally, so it's not merely a matter of which mic do I like the best - it's a matter of should I give up multi-pattern *versatility* for a cardioid-only mic; albeit cardiod-only on a mic that most people would consider to be vastly superior?

What would you do?

Which Lawson--tube or FET?

And do you really need multiple patterns for VO?

I would lean toward a Lawson , either tube or FET FWIW

Hi Rob - it's the tube, not the FET. I have used the Rode for micing guitar and other instruments in the past, and the MP versatility was helpful. But I guess you're right - for VO, MP capability isn't all that important.

And I don't plan on recording music again any time soon.

So, it'll probably be the Lawson.
