I paid for the "upgrade" after having the beta and it turned out I couldn't use it (the beta is not eligible for the discounted "upgrade" and when you try to install it, your beta serial number will not work). I opened a case with Adobe and they refunded my money. I put my refund towards the full price full version.

How are you liking Adobe Audition on the Mac- I miss Adobe and am on the fence whether I should get it for my PC or my Macbook.

I really like it so far (although I only do basic stuff on it and really haven't gotten into all the bells and whistles). Easy to use and get around without having to break out the manual all the time Laugh

Minor hijack...

I used the beta release and ended up being a bit "meh" with it... especially at $300 bucks (and my aversion to Adobe in general 'cos of activation and license transfer nightmares etc.) Prompted by this thread, I downloaded the latest trial version, and have been a little more impressed. Now, the fact the Apple have not done the right thing (IMHO) and upgraded Soundtrack Pro along with Final Cut, and the fact that I can get legitimate educational pricing of $149 on Audition, it has once again raised it's head as a legitimate "all in one" software solution for my VO work.

Anyone got any major caveats or gotchas with Audition? I'll be wanting to record directly into it (it seems to play nicely with my Apogee Duet), bit-bust the wave (edit or heal clicks, bangs, fluffs and "mouth-music"), apply effects/sweetening as required (seems to access my favourite AU modules OK), and save as aiff, mp3, or multi-track project... all non-destructively.

The check-boxes all seem to be filled... am I missing anything?

Cheers
Peter

aside from listing the new Final Cut as an "upgrade" i think you got everything right. i like the feel much better than soundtrack and the price is right.

I dont know if the offer is still going on, BUT if you owned any other versions of AA. You can get the full new version as an upgrade for $99 for either Mac or Windows.

I had Cashman did the upgrade and he loves it.

If I find the link for the offer I'll post it. I'll do some digging.

The deal is still going on for Windows or Mac. I just upgraded from Audition 2 to the new CS5.5 for 99 dollars. The link is here:

In the upper right corner of the page is the promotion.

Yeah, but as Fran discovered, you can't upgrade from the Beta.

I am not prepared to spend $350 on another sound-editing program just for kicks.
I am disappoint.

I find this incredibly annoying. Thanks for nothing, Adobe! See if I waste my time helping you on the next round.

IF you own Sound Booth I believe you can upgrade from that also.

FYI: Betas are FREE test programs. As part of the agreement you have no ownership of them, only limited use.

Apart from saving a dogpile of money by getting the public to do their testing for them, I always thought that public betas were a way of getting people used to a particular system so that they would become invested in it and have difficulty in walking away... therefore promoting sales.

However, if someone has invested time and effort into doing Adobe's field testing for them, then I would expect some type of thank you expressed as a discount on the released product.

I can hear the laughing now...

If it's a giant cluster of a beta like when Microsoft releases a public beta of Windows, that's one thing. But when it's a closed, "you must apply" beta — the better companies take care of their testers one way or another with upgrade pricing, free licenses, swag, a nice thank you note, buy me breakfast and a cab home in the morning, something.

As I recall, Microsoft let me go from Windows 95 beta to the full version for just the upgrade price, but that may have been because I had already been running Windows 3.1.
