After Mr. Murdoch's 'News of the World' was brought down by the phone-tapping outrage, and the "fair and balanced" (cough) reporting we've come to expect (suspect) from them, why is anyone surprised at anything FOX does or says?

I hope the actors can stand their ground.

This will probably get moderated off the forum, but isn't it interesting how our side is always the right one and the 'other' side is always the slimy, lying, creeps?

Well, they are what they are, and they are cooperate flunkies and greedy too.

Harry Shearer says he's willing to take a 70 percent pay cut in exchange for backend profits. Hell, I'd work for the session fee for a portion of the profits.

What they are asking is not all that much, considering how much it earns, and how much they contribute to the show. And besides, how much longer can it really go on? I honestly find the show a trifle bore.

I see the same trend at my day job. After 23 years with San Diego County my net pay declines. Our health care premium cost (if we stuck with the same plan) went up 48.7%. We are forced into a lower cost (lower quality) plan our wonderful long time primary care doc isn't in. Our retirement contributions have increased every year for the past few. And no raises. Times are strange.

Those are great point Greg.

Not to get political, but Americans have not had a pay raise in 30 years. We work longer hours for less money, and we are doing the job of 3 people, and producing more and more. Yet Americans can not can't get a day off, they can't get ahead and they are supplementing their meager incomes with credit cards that they will never be able to pay off.

And here is an interesting factoid: Most Americans do not have a thousand dollars for an emergency situation. They have to borrow it from friends or family.

WHy? Corporate greed. Profits above the happiness and security of the people that do the work, that generate their profits. Even Henry Ford understood that a well paid, well rested worker is more productive, and can afford to buy the products they make. A cyclical economic society; one that feeds and nourishes the other. Not the Lineal trajectory that we've been on, where the money goes in the pockets of the rich and never comes out.

But I digress.

I hope I wasn't appearing to make any political statement but stating the personal effect of these strange economic times directly on my family.

If I hear one more time "you are one of those government workers with the huge retirements and great benefits I am paying for" I think I'll scream. I pay about $24,000 a year for health care and retirement contributions.

If I were to retire today 2/3 of my retirement pay would go to health care. I would then be at the poverty level without VO income.

I used to believe in the American Dream.
