I have very sad news for those of you who knew Mike Sommer, expert in the art/science of acoustics, and generous contributor on vo-bb and other forums. I have very sad news to share. I sent a PM to Mike Sommer a few days back, and today, I got this message from his brother:
"To those of you who have corresponded with Mike, I would like to let you know that Mike (my brother) passed away this last Thursday.
I don’t have any more information to pass forward at this time...
Regards,
David Sommer"
I replied to his brother, expressing my admiration for Mike. Mike's brother replied "My family appreciates your help. My brother was a great man and I devastated by losing him....David" So it sounds to me that his family would appreciate if we spread the message. Mike must have been having correspondence and work with many clients, I would imagine, and having to track them all down must be very sad for his family. So I'm going to try and tactfully let the community know as best I can.
Mike Sommer was very active and incredibly generous with his expertise in this forum. If you know of anyone who was working with Mike, please pass the sad news along to them and help make the difficult work of follow-up that much easier on his family.
We'll miss you, Mike. _________________ Best regards,

Wow, I am shocked and of course saddened to hear of this. I guess it's still
my tendency to assume that my friends here at the vo-bb will always be here.
I am taken aback by this news, to say the least. Thank you Tom, for letting us know. |

Yes, it's such a shock. I've always enjoyed reading Mike's advice here. |

Incredibly sad news. I had just started talking with Mike about doing a studio build. Rarely have I consulted with someone who was as unselfish as Mike in sharing their experience and knowledge. He just wanted to make sure it was done right. I join everyone on this board in sending Mike's family our sincere thoughts and prayers. God Bless. |

This is sad indeed. Earlier this month I swapped some PMs with Mike, and he was, as ever, extremely generous with both his time and expertise. I only knew him as part of this forum, but he will be missed. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Like many others, Mike helped me a great deal as well. I was hoping to meet him this coming week at a social gathering.
May you find peace, Mike. Wherever are now. |

Mike has been a special friend to me— a real jolly correspondent and fabulous help in the studio. We went to Bob's Big Boy for a Friday Car show after he helped me with one of my amps.
I don't mean to be self-indulgent, but I'm a f&cking wreck about this news. I can't imagine how his family is feeling. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I haven't been around in a while, but I wanted to make sure the news was true. This sucks. _________________ Brad Venable

No, I understand, Deirdre. He was just eating lunch and hanging out in my kitchen a few weeks ago. I am looking right at a cable I borrowed and was planning to return to him this week. My last email to him was sent before I learned of his passing. I just can't believe I'm never going to see him again. I'm really broken up about it. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

Even though I never met him in real life, all I can do is sit here and wonder if there isn't something I could do to help his family, or - just - something. But I feel helpless since I didn't know them.
It takes a really special guy to have that effect on folks they never met in person.
So sad. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

I'm in shock too, he was a gentleman, incredibly helpful and generous. He came to my studio a couple of times to help me out with the acoustics and I shall think of him every time I record next to the giant fiberglass panel I got from him. I'm very sad. It's a great loss. _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

Just read a post of his dated last Thursday, from another forum... Shocking and terrible..
I've gone toe to toe with Mike over the years but when all was said and done he became a pal. And a good one. Will miss ya, man. |

There's a thread in Entre Nous for a memorial fund for Mike. _________________ DBCooperVO.com
