If any of you have learned to fly an aeroplane then you will know that in the early stages you will be flying VFR (Visual flying rules).
How on earth do you establish your location? You have a map and you look out of the window. Well done, you now know all about VFR navigation; that'll $4 please.
Not buying it? Thought not.
Then why do you buy VO expertise on blogs, newsletters etc written in the same way?
First, VFR navigation, the quick fix. Look on your map and find three easily identifiable land marks. Look out of the window and see if what you see on the map is on the ground and where you expect each one to be. One land mark could be a coincidence, two ... well, unlikely to be a coincidence but three all where you expect them to be are evidence of where you are beyond resonable doubt.
Take the above idea and apply it to your career, how you learn and upon what you place value.
I was directed to a VO article a few days ago because it was SO valuable and awesome and life changing. It was nicely written, had a beginning, middle and an end. I looked for three things on the map (in the article) and then looked for the three land marks to support the position (the claims). Not there, not a single land mark; in other words no supporting, verifiable evidence.
"Woot awesome dood" is a nice thing to say in respose to an article, blog or tip.
"How EXACTLY did it work for you?" is a better thing to say before you act on wishy-washy ideas.

Having been to the Canyon many times I've seen a lot of amazing sights, but this one just about took the cake. The only thing more thrilling was watching banks of fog flow over the edge into the abyss.

Anybody else find it odd that on the flight back to home base, hanging onto the outside of the helicopter, the dude didn't bother to wear his helmet? _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

I WANNA DO THAT!!!!! iwannnadothatiwannadothat. I. Want. To. Do. That.
One thing Philip forgot to mention. Don't overlook the obvious - and don't make too much of it. If you're flying VFR in the morning and squinting because the sun is in your eyes you're heading east. Don't need to pay anyone to figure that out. And if you still can't figure it out you could be heading south. quickly. |

Glad you guys liked it. It's weird...I'm terrified of heights...but not when it has to do with planes. There's one power-on stall he does that's really cool. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

That was a cool video, but personally I plan to try paramotoring soon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KQvzlkQaAI
MUCH more affordable and since you're going so much more slowly, you can really take in the scenery better. Plus, you can do it just about anywhere. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

There was a flying video?
I thought you meant all those bikini videos that were on the screen next to the flying videos. _________________ - Peter
