There are the old perennial voice references such as "I need you to sound like: Hal Riney, James Earl Jones, Sam Elliott, Jeff Bridges, Morgan Freeman."
Then there are the "fad" voices and styles. Last year it was the lovely, raspy-voiced gentleman who did the Dodge/Detroit commercial for the Super Bowl. This year? Clint Eastwood from the Dodge/Detroit Super Bowl commercial this year. I've had two audition requests this week using that reference and I now expect a whole bunch more.
Funny (?) story on style borrowing. Are you familiar with the viral "Honey Badger" video?* I was asked to do a political spot last October in that style against another candidate. Some folks will try anything once.
