|
|
I've been looking for the perfect video and audio player for my site (as are most of us) and I've been disheartened to see that folks can't agree on HTML5 formats from browser to browser, and some phones don't like what other phones like, and SoundCloud doesn't play nice with some browsers...
So, by a bit of a fluke I found http://m.Vid.ly which will take your video, convert it to every format required out there, store it on their site and give you a shortened link and easy embedding codes for your site. Their site recognizes the device your viewer holds and plays the correct video. One hosted video is free, and for "small" users like us the cost is likely to be just a few dollars per month. I used their pricing calculator with 12 hosted videos of 12MB in size with 400 total plays per month they said would cost me $4.33 per month.
I set up a free one and I've put up a dummy page of mine in case you want to challenge it with your particular phone, or pad, or XBox (yep! it does those too) and see if it works.

I've done a tiny version to the left as a test too. If all of the audio players out there aren't all working nicely either, why not make videos of all my audio demos and post those on my site as well using vid.ly? Or am I barkers?

Not bad. Internet Explorer, Chrome browser, iPad, Android Gingerbread w webkit browser, and Android Ice Cream Sandwich with new Chrome mobile browser (beta, just out). All good. Firefox anyone? _________________ Don Brookshire

Bruce, no go on my BlackBerry running Opera Mini browser. File type error message on the page load and trying to open vid.
Sorry Bruce, no active buttons in BlackBerry's native browser. _________________ Gregory Best

It's been a while so I'm not sure. I dealt mostly with agency people.
