Hi Patricia,

I think I know the exact discontinued IKEA room divider you mentioned, since in my recent room treatment quest I looked for them and liked it only to be disappointed!

You might check http://www.roomdividers.com/ - they have solutions that allow dividers to be freestanding similar to what Frank mentioned, and a wide variety of screens to choose from.

What I ultimately went with was buying an expandable clothing rack on casters, and 2 thick cloth shower curtains to hang on it, which I doubled back on themselves so the curtains hang on both sides of the vertical rods of the rack. Sounds not glamorous and it isn't, but I was able to reasonably customize the look to a pleasant style and color, and the whole shebang was only about $65. Plus, it is 69" tall (as tall as me!) and expands out to 60" wide if I want it that big. After I washed the shower curtains and they shrank, though, I wound up retracting the rack to its smallest width and that works well for screening off the corner space that I have set up for VO work. (Note, I put 2" Auralex on the walls and above me in the corner - the room divider is meant to be moveable and simply provide some minimal dampening from any reflections that could come from behind me while I'm working.) Here's a pic so you can see what I mean:



When I actually am recording, I roll the curtains over closer to the corner right to the edge of the area rug I'm standing on. Between this and the Auralex setup in the corner, I've been very happy with how this has dampened the liveness of my room.

I could not remember the name of the panels I suggest until a bit ago, they are called "Shoji Screens" and they come in a variety heights and widths,

Another simple option is louvered doors (available at most home building stores), They are usually six foot or better in height. These doors/panels would need to have Auralex added to one side (the VO side) and since the other is already wood - it would be reflective; for the student side.

Using your creative side Momma Bear, you could cover the foam with canvas which you hand painted to make it pretty,,,,

Hey, Jen! What a smart plan. I can't help but wonder what function the one fuzzy bootie serves. "One" fuzzy bootie in the pic is driving me crazy.
