a big storm passed through here yesterday morning. i got up @ 4am because the dog was going nuts. a lot of wind, but no damage here. less than an hour later an EF4 tornado (don't know what the "E" means) touched down in harrisburg, just a few miles from here. residential area - early in the morning - 6 dead and many hurt. it is an area already hard hit economically and this damage will do nothing to help. i have lots of friends in harrisburg and plan to go in the next couple of days to help out. at the very least, prayers go out to these folks trying to rebuild their families & their lives.
my business partner got into ground zero yesterday and took some pictures:

Wow. There is something very different about seeing video footage on the news and seeing pictures posted from a friend. Thanks for sharing Todd- very powerful stuff. _________________ Moe Egan

I was also thinking of you, looked you up on the map, and breathed a sigh of relief. This is so heartbreaking. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

it's a mess - to reiterate - we're fine - people & property. harrisburg is about 20 miles east of us. they're not letting "regular folks" in just yet, but when i can, i'll be heading over there. plenty of people helped me in '08 when it happened here - so i'm eager to pay it forward. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

There's nothing one can say. I remember Hurricane Andrew like it was yesterday. A hurricane that was like a giant tornado. They don't really know how high the winds were as it read 169 mph, before the measuring devices were destroyed.
I remember reporting on it and driving through neighborhoods with people just standing in the middle of rubble, crying. To this day I look at pictures like that of your friend's in a different light. They are pictures that we can put aside and do something else. Those people can't put the picture aside and they can't do something else. It's very sad, and all you can do is pray for the strength they need and help them to do what needs to be done. Bless you for doing that. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Oh man, Todd, glad to see you post. I was worried about you. Glad all is ok for you.
Good on you for going to help. The pictures are mind-boggling - take your breath away, really. So sad for all the folks touched by this destructive force. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

Glad to hear you're okay Todd. The weather just keeps getting crazier.
Best of luck helping friends and neighbors.
Kate and I have old friends in East Illinois that have to "duck and cover" way to often. We keep trying to get them to move back up here.....where we only have Hurricanes and Nor'easters. Unless you live in Mass..... _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Like Rick, I remember Hurricane Andrew far too well, and Todd, your business partner's photos bring back some painful memories.
But some wonderful ones, too...like the help we got from friends and neighbors when we were in need.
And with some very close ties to southern Illinois (in fact my son was born there), my ears always perk up when I hear about these storms in the area.
Glad to hear that you're okay, Todd. And even happier to hear that you'll be "paying it forward." _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)
