So, I've just moved to an awesome little apt in a high rise downtown...which I've wanted to do forever. The studio was set up today, and I've run head first into problem after problem.
While I wait for my session with our own George Whittam, I thought I'd also post my questions here.
First, I've received a warning upon opening Pro Tools 9 for the first time since reconnecting everything that my 'i/o settings have changed'. They haven't. Everything is wired exactly the same way. But the input simply isn't getting through. Anyone else encounter this and find a solution? I've Googled, but I'm honestly so worn down at this point from the move (and the last month) that my brain has stopped functioning.
Second, it turns out that the convenient train near my building is not so convenient in regards to my ability to record. I'm hearing a bass rumble every time it passes. Outside of the booth, I can barely hear it. Inside the booth, bass it is pounding through the wheels and floor. I'm on concrete floors, which isn't helping. Anyone else ever deal with something like this? Do you know if there are pads or something I could put under the wheels to mute the bass?
Finally, anyone using Source Connect through a wireless internet connection? I've always hard-wired in, but my modem is on the other side of the room. Which isn't a big deal, I'll just buy a long ethernet cable- I'm just curious.
OK, I think that's it...for now...
Actually, heck- while I'm at it...anyone else having issues with their iPad since installing Twisted Wave? Mine keeps crashing.
OK, that's really it. Back to Google... _________________ Threadjackers local 420

Kara--
Not an expert, but based on some other vibration issues I've tackled, you should get some bass relief from neoprene pads under the wheels of the Whisperroom. I'd think perhaps 1/2 or 3/4 inch but others may know better. Perhaps an inch thick pad under the entire unit might be better, if the unit can then be wheeled into place. Some place like Grainger should have what you need.
S-C does work wirelessly , but if you have the option to run cable, that's a lot better.
Congrats on your new place! |

Kara, perhaps this could be a solution for the I/O settings:

As for Source Connect, the signal is always more stable when hard-wired. Go for safety. |

Is the train low enough in frequency to fix it with a high pass filter? _________________ Colin Day - UK Voiceover

Yes, the train is low enough to fix with a high-pass, and her problem was the clock source in PT needed to be SPDIF... _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I get the same message in PT 9 every time I forget to fire up the Digi002 box before opening ProTools on the computer.
If you do this, ProTools switches the interface to Aggregate input, which is how you can connect with ProTools using a different interface other than Digi boxes etc.
To fix it I go to Set-up / Playback Engine and select my Digi002 and then I have to go to the inputs and select another one and then back to the original one I had to get back to normal.
Does anyone know if there is there a way to lock the playback engine? If not, it would be nice. It is nice to have options in PT now with other boxes....but a pain to have to do this when you have a brain sneeze and forget the order in which to turn things on etc. (insert guy joke here) _________________ Ben

Downtown Dallas for the summer...then? IDK- my moving plans seem to change on a weekly basis
George saved the day (again) and then answered the questions here too...that man is the best!
I've been so dang busy I haven't had the chance to really test out the train - but thus far I have not received one single complaint on audio. Source Connect sessions working great, and ISDN will hopefully back up and running this week (thank goodness for local studios!).
I do believe all is well in my little high rise! Now if I could just convince my upstairs neighbor that one does not need to walk like an elephant in stilettos, I'll be set! (Yay for double walled vocal booths that are elephant proof!) _________________ Threadjackers local 420
