It's one for me Rob. One has more texture that my ears like, and a firmer bottom end too.

That's tough to tell Rob, because honestly I think your voice is better and fuller on first one in the first place. There's more low end on the first because your pitch is higher on the second read.

I liked the first preamp though for your voice. It's a tube pre, right? The transformer on the second preamp probably doesn't suit your voice as much.

Yes folks, I can hear the transformer... Wink

This is an interesting test though, where you can really hear the differences in preamps.

Great feedback dudes, thanks!

At the appropriate moment I will , of course, pull back the curtain on the
mystery pre-amps.

#1 is cleaner, #2 is muddier to my ears. Small difference, but a difference.

I'll hold off on revealing the pre-amps a little longer, in case
anyone else wants to weigh-in on this....so far Pre-Amp #1 is clearly
the crowd favorite.

What are the impedance settings on these preamps? I'm hearing more high and low end on the first in a good way so that could be a factor.

Actually for the $$$ I think the ISA is pretty impressive, but just not as good a fit for my voice as the LA 610

Thanks for posting this, Rob! I agree with the others in preferring the 610 over the ISA One (which I also own, as you know).

Hope I didn't muddy the waters for you Tom.

The 610 seems to be a good fit for my voice, but for others (possibly yours)
The ISA might be the better choice.

No muddying here, Rob. There are so many factors that enter into it - compatibility between mic and pre (I'm on a Gefell M930); the sound of the recording environment; the sound card; and of course, our different voices.

I'm pretty busy these days, but I'd love to post a similar shootout between my ISA One, SafeSound Tracking Toolbox, and Summit 2BA-221 tube pre with an NOS Amperex tube. (I did something like that last year, but then realized that since I was routing everything through my Mackie mixer, I wasn't getting pure external preamp, I was getting i.e., a Summit blended with the Mackie's preamps).

Again, thanks for doing this!
