Need some help trying to figure out a quote for an international client.

Client is asking for a quote for 6 hours of finished audio for a documentary, non-commercial for tourist purposes (according to them). I don't believe it's going to be broadcast.

Anyone have any ideas what to quote? Don't want to scare them off, but also don't want to low ball it.

Thanks!

Six hours is up in the long-form audiobook range Smile

If it were a book, then $300 per finished hour (pfh) would be a fair (if somewhat unexceptional) rate... that would give you around $2K. I'd be tempted to pitch at around $500~$600 pfh ... $3K~$3.6K minimum for the job.

I would then out-source the editing.

But... although the work is basically the same, and I'd be tempted to treat it as such, this isn't an audiobook, so I'd be interested in seeing what others have to say about tourist audio guide rates as well.

a flat narration rate (studio hour rate -- mine is $300) may be good. depends on whether you're doing the editing or not, which adds to that total number of hours, but farming out the editing is a good idea, as bish said. a finished minute rate of $100 per probably wouldn't fly ...

I'd say go for at least $500 pfh. It also depends on what country this is for. Switzerland I'd go for more. Croatia less.

If you don't like editing there are editors who charge about $75 per finished hour, give or take.

Can anyone PM me with some contact details of editors please?

We're completely swamped most of the time and could really use some intelligent help....

(don't mean to hijack the topic - sorry)

Hey Colin, sent you an email as well as posting here recommending Bob Souer's son Eric for audio editing.

Bob's daughter Karen does editing, too.
