Is anyone else encountering issues today with uploading audition files on acx.com?

No matter what browser I use, or what file I try to upload, once the file supposedly uploads, I'm getting an "http error".

Was wondering whether it's on my end or theirs.

I can't speak to today, but I've never been able to upload a book without some problems with uploads that abort right at the beginning of transmission. At its worst I can get up to a 50% fail rate on uploads.

I'm pretty sure the flakiness is at their end.

Keep in mind that most internet connections at the consumer level were not designed to upload large files but rather download because it is what most consumers do.

Sometimes it can be caused by network connection, a firewall program or a router not maximized.

The problem is Google Chrome. Chrome had an update and so did ACX and guess what? Of course, there is some kinda compatability issue. They recommend using Firefox. Ok, downloaded it and when you try to upload an audition, there is NO browse button for you to get the file! So, I used old Internet Explorer and I had no probs at all.

I was told they were working the issues...I wont hold my breath.

Here was some of their, eventual, reply. I called before I got this.

"I understand that you are receiving an error message when you upload your audio to ACX. I sincerely apologize for this. There are a few potential causes for this error. Below, please find some troubleshooting steps. Please attempt to upload your audio after completing each step. If you are unsuccessful, move to the next steps.

If you are using Google Chrome and seeing an “HTTP” error, please note the following:

In a very recent update that Chrome automatically installs for their users, it changed the way that flash works within the browser. There is a new flash plugin (“pepper flash”) that does not work with our digital asset upload processes.

In order for users to avoid this problem, they can either use another browser until we identify a fix, or they can disable this specific update to flash from within Chrome. To do this, they will:
1) type the following in their Chrome URL: chrome://plugins/
2) click the details link on the right-hand side of the page
3) Disable the flash plugin located at: ..\Chrome\Application\21.0.1180.60\PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll (see screenshot of this disabled below)

1.) Please disable any Firewall programs you may have running.
2.) If you have been logged in and inactive for 8 hours or more, try logging out and then logging back in.
3.) Access the site from another browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Safari).
4.) Update your browser to the most current version.
5.) Update Adobe Flash to the most current version. (You can download the latest version of Flash via this link http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. It’s recommended to keep Flash updated to ensure best performance. )
5.) Remove any special characters from the file name and try again (Short and simple names are recommended).
6.) If your internet connection is typically very slow, you may need to try uploading from another location with better service.

If none of the above works, we’ll need some more information to help diagnose and solve the problem. Please reply back to this e-mail"

That's so really good information... thanks!

I should add that 90% of my problems with browsers, be it with Firefox, Safari or Chrome (I use all three) are due to Flash in one way or another. My machine hangs, I check what's hogging the processor and it's usually a flash browser plug-in. Flash wants to update itself all the time which is as annoying as the constant upgrades required by Windows or virus software (which is why I switched).

How long until everyone says "enough is enough" with this crap. Flash is not the saviour of the universe, it's a pain in the butt.

(see what I did there)

Thanks, Andy. I actually tried uploading after the fact with IE, thinking it was a Chrome issue, and still had a problem. However, today I went BACK with IE again and WAS able to upload the audition.

Well, I'm at a loss here. I'm STILL having issues with the ACX audition site and wondering if it's just me.

This morning I tried to upload an audition file using ALL THREE MAJOR BROWSERS, and was unsuccessful with all three. Using Chrome, I get a red "http error" notice after uploading. In both Firefox and I.E., after I upload, it says "File has been uploaded" and right below that "Choose a file to upload" with the "browse" button.

Do I simply have demons in my computer or is it ACX?

Yes, I have problems with the ACX site for sure. I'm using Google Chrome browser and it doesn't want to attach to the file on my computer to begin the upload. I just noticed I'm getting the javascript:void(0) message. This tells the browser not to refresh the page. Tried 3 different laptops. Tried IE9 and got same result. Have tried cutting down the file size below 3 MB. Have written to ACX to ask what is wrong with their site? Asked if they could let the author know my audition is sitting in my samples section (where it did upload without a problem) for the author to listen to. What kind of a bush-league company is this? How many people do they have working there in IT? What do they know? How can they affiliate with a name brand company like Amazon for logon on and then go to this well meaning, but dismally poor run site? Festus says "Ifinest I could, I'd surely shoot this company in the OTHER boot", They's already shot theyselves off a few toes on the first boot."
