I know that you would - and that's why I love it here.

Ha! I knew I wasn't the only one. I tend to use barbells while I'm listening to webinars and training seminars...and EWABS replays.
I hadn't thought of using the yoga ball while editing, though. What a marvelous idea. Currently, my editing "chair" is a gliding footrest. _________________ Kendra Hoffman

I got just the plain old Gaiam yoga ball, the big one since I am tall, and have sat on that by itself many a time doing desk work over the years. Never had much a problem with rolling unless I was practicing my balance.
Really keeps you from getting stiff from sitting for long periods of time, in my experience. I don't know whether I could make it work for recording, but for editing I'm sure it could be done and I would be better off!
BTW, Lance, nice work! I should follow your model. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

This is my personal preference. Great for posture!

But seriously, Corey, you are a tall guy. If you're going for proper ergonomics you want a less-than-90 degree hip angle when seated for any length of time. Maybe a ball on a custom base? _________________ Dangerous.

I've had one of the Gaiaim balance ball chairs for about 4 years & love it!
It's NOT in my booth, but at my editing station.
A few things to note:
-The casters work better on hardwood or one of those plastic carpet protectors.
I have it in my studio now that has carpet & it's a bit of a pain to roll back, but nothing major.
- The castors have locks on them, I sometimes hit those inadvertently with my foot when pushing back and can't move it at all!, just something to be aware of.
- In terms of Donna's point, the ball frame comes with risers to lift it up higher for those who are over 6'
- Beware that you'll get used to how comfortable it is, and when you go sit on a "regular" chair you'll realize how hard they are!
...and ummmmm Kafer...yteah...thanks for that image. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

Liz, I just did a 3-hour stint in a chair behind the mic. I have another one this afternoon. Based on your experience, would you say that a ball chair is a good option for that scenario?
I generally prefer to work standing for short pieces but there's just no way to do that for a nine-hour audiobook, so if I have to sit I want it to be quiet and comfortable. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Corey, I'm working on my 19th and 20th audiobooks right now. I really resisted sitting to record - it just wasn't the way I'd ever worked - but you're so right, for a 10-finished-hour project it just isn't an option.
I thought a yoga ball would be perfect - YMMV, but it was a non starter for me.
Office chair? nope. Stool? Kinda, but still not great.
The saddle? It works for me. I'm a horsey kinda gal so one was available, but the inspiration came from here:

Corey,
I would say yes.
Mine is quiet so I would give it a shot.
Donna...I have never seen those! They look cool too! _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

They look very interesting... I was particularly impressed with:

This has been so educational. I had always feared that using one of those in the studio would be akin to having a very comfortable whoopie cushion. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

Wow, Donna! Somehow I thought that the saddle chair was a joke. I'm rather amazed that it is a comfortable seat for you! But I am not a horse rider so that's probably just me. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com
