Backup is a MUST for sure. I backup everything to DVD occasionally, plus I keep uncompressed copies of jobs, plus I use CrashPlan online backup. The CrashPlan thing is great. I don't have to think about it at all, and I know that everything is backed up in case of a catastrophic event (plus its too cheap not to have the insurance).
Also, I have a copy of every audition, and every job I have ever done, as well as every demo. Storage is so cheap and easy, there is no reason to delete anything.
Now I sound like an digital hoarder....at least I don't keep the DVDs on a huge rack in my studio. |

Lesson learned. Your work product is not only your end product, but your insurance and your demo source.
It's been said above.... Don't throw anything out til you're sure it has no value.
Storage is cheap. Lessons learned? Priceless. _________________ Don Brookshire

Neil, look at FTP storage; but also invest in a decent external HD. A 1TB drive doesn't even reach 100$ nowadays. |

I have to take my cap off and give a graceful bow in Neil's direction for taking well making an error but above all for not threatening to insert additional back up storage while repeatedly having his nose rubbed in it. |

yeah when it comes to backing up files and using an external hard drive, just remember Murphy's Law.
Murphy must have been a voiceover dude. |

Congratulations! Bet that feels good. Both sending the files off and knowing that we all (might) stop harping on about backups at you. _________________ Kendra Hoffman

Neil, Make sure you have created a cassette backup of your cloud storage, in case it rains.
Of course, a reel to reel or even 8-track would be more betterer.
