Hi! So today I'm going in to another studio to record audio for a bajillion videos... it's a textbook supplement, very wordy. I'll be in the session with my male counterpart for 4 hours (then again Friday), and that's way longer than I'm used to! So, other than making sure I'm super hydrated, I'm wondering if you might have some tips for me on how to stay awesome the whole time.

What do you do?

I take a real break every 45 minutes or so. Stand up, walk around, stretch.

I also use Pat Fraley's suggested method for hydrating while recording - an atomizer (spritz-bottle) of water instead of a glass of water. I found if I drank water, I tended to...um...burp three sentences later. Embarrassed

I save the water drinking for during the real breaks.

Oh! And my voice doctor suggested a larynx (voice box / adam's apple) massage once in a while. Just run your fingers on either side of your voice box once in a while, like you'd rub any other muscle.

Good luck - and congratulations!!!!

You're welcome! I had a devil of a time finding a non-plastic one.

Just remembered something else too - warm up and cool down. Make silly broad noises in the car on the way there and back. Gives the other drivers something fun to watch, too. Smile

Thanks again Kendra! It went well enough that I've already been hired for another project after this one, so yay! That was intense though.

Sorry Whit...I've been in my own Long-Form world this week.
Just finished 19,000 words for a Canadian client and am doing about another 9000 or so for another client...that's due tomorrow.....ummmm today!

What Kendra said is true.
I can't do plain water either,
I should buy stock in herbal tea at the rate I drink it
....after the morning coffee of course!

Take breaks when you can
and bring snacks if you are out of your own studio:
Bananas & Power bars for me Smile

Oh...and have fun! Smile

Thanks again Kendra, and thanks Liz!

Kendra, by the end I was starting to feel a little bit fatigued vocally, but then it morphed into this state of extreme warmed uppedness.
Then that night I had band practice. Gasp Halfway through that I could feel that my voice had been through quite the workout and started taking it easy.

Going back today, then again for another project next week, hooray! Then wine at the cincy vo meet up, which my partner in this gig happens to be going to as well. Yay.

Yeah, note to self - better not to have band practice the same day as a really long session.
