Hi everyone, I'm relatively new around these parts and I've finally been nudged to post a few reads here. I'm new to the world of voice over, and would love comments/criticisms of a few quick reads I've done.

There are two short pieces, A and B. File A is without any formal coaching or direction, just pushing and projecting too much I think as I felt my way around the scripts I found online.

File B are reads after some tips and help from some fantastic people on this board here. Really stellar help from a pro that is very much appreciated.

Here are the reads: https://soundcloud.com/vespahead-1

Thank you for your ears, and your time!!

-Zach

Well done, that was an admirable couple of shots. All you need to do is stop trying so hard. To learn how to do that simply listen to demos of the natural VOs out there who make a living doing what you want to do and every time you listen to one, listen to yours again then make notes.

Good luck.

I love your voice. Absolutely love it. You have a great sense for the copy for a first go. Agree with Mr. Banks that it needs to be less labo(u)red. Make it sound like these are your thoughts, not trying to make the copy sound cool. Don't try to go so low or big with your voice. Your voice has it's own nice low resonance to it that shouldn't be over played - but your natural speaking voice is a little higher than this, yes? Also, a wild guess here but you're under 40? You're going to book a lot more work if you try to sound young and fun. You can be old and boring when you get old and boring for real. Wink

Thanks Philip and Lance for the critique!

Couldn't agree more, it FELT labored and pushed as I was reading it. I've already learned much by simply listening back to what I've prevously recorded, and simply re-telling it in a new way, and not 'trying' so hard.

Lance, I'm in the under 30 crowd, barely Wink

Great point about old and boring, but I already feel that way when there's some new dance move out every week that I had no idea about, aka, The Harlem Shake right about now, lol.
