|
|
Is anyone aware of a collection of demos WITH comments/input from other people? I thought it might be a good way to listen to some demos and see what other folks are saying about it to help train my ear.
Thanks all. _________________ http://neilkhessvo.com |

That sounds dangerous. I suspect any site designed for the collection and critique of demos will be of little value unless the "panel of judges" are either industry "experts" or respected peers... otherwise it would take a lot of policing and would ultimately descend to the level of YouTube comments (or people trying to pimp their own coaching/demo services). I think ad hoc comments when requested in a safe environment (such as here) are far better... if you feel they are needed at all. Cruise other VO's sites (or the P2P lists)... listen. The chances are you'll develop your own good ear as to what is good and what isn't. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Some of the greatest VObloggers know little or nothing, VO coaches only teach because they have no VOwork, demo producers either failed as rock stars or production directors at radio stations near Cape Crusader .... NOBODY CARES WHAT A NOBODY THINKS!
Who would I buy? Who would YOU buy? NOBODY CARES WHAT A NOBODY THINKS!
Find out who is being bought by whom and why. There will be no training as to how to ace the P2P sites involved ...No "better branding" - Ah yes, you're VOLover aren't you ...great but only last 30 seconds - No put the 3rd spot on your demo first and 6 seconds of the last spot towards the latter middle and include a pause at 4.2 seconds ..... We happy band at the VO-BB know little or nothing except ......
"If you want to make a living as a VO you may do it. If you HAVE to be a VO you'll climb as high as you can be bothered to climb and no level of knowledge or (in most cases) ignorance will stand in your way"
Here's your rating - B3. Tell everyone, don't explain, just tell 'em |

To get a feel for the competition and to train you ear I'd recommend listening the big agency's rosters on voice bank.
You don't need reviews from random people to know that the majority of talent signed to the big agencies are very good. I'd stick with the big ones though (cesd / dpn /sbv etc)
You can download the demos from their entire roster, I burned a few rosters onto a CD a while back and now have ever VO's dream...hours upon hours of commercials in the car! Also fun with trailers, promos, whatever you want to get better at. |

Watch TV or listen to the radio. Those are the people being hired.

True. Some agencies/producers prefer to work with people they like, are accurate in their work, meet deadlines. Some just hire their nephew. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

And, sadly, some got the job because they work cheap. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.
