A prominent teaching studio, the edgy one, is offering demo evaluations for $112 this week, discounted from their usual $140 fee. They'll let you know if you're meant to be a professional voicifier. We do it here for free, with multiple responses usually!

Our business model sucks apparently, but somehow it doesn't bother me much.

If there's a bar, we're usually VERY social. Laugh

Critiquing might be more interesting then!

"I fink yor recordin's rubbish," the Voiceover Wannabe said. His succeeding sentence never left his face. That part of his body decided to partake in the famoed "British Smacking."

I, for one, value the input I have received here far more than any I can get from a commercial - pay me to teach you to be gooder - site.

Y'all care.

In some ways, I think of myself as "the odd man out" in these circles. One of the regulars here steered me to this site through an e-mail conversation and though I need to post my "Introduction" for all to see, I have been sneaking in some participation.

I must tell you as a newcomer to the world of Voice-Over, it has the look, the feel, the smell of Amway Multi-level Marketing of 20 sand 25 years ago. I am amazed at the number of people who CLIM to be successful voice-over people, but all they are about is selling you coaching, selling you a book, selling you participation in a seminar (on-line or the traveling Medicine show). And the contrasting philosophies on how this business works is a bit mind-boggling.

Oh! I must stop or there will be nothing left to say and reveal in my overdue "Introduction Message.

Thanks for all the great info here. And thanks for the entertaining frivolity. I may be new to V-O... but I am a certified, award winning dispenser of frivolity.

... but if the VO-BB were to offer $5 demo critiques, would this place really become a swamp?... or just be swamped?

We'd have to establish a section just for that -- sort of like building a mud room.

Ah... the teachings.

You're all aware, of course, that the reason women weren't used in the "early days" of voice-over is because the microphones were not sophisticated enough to pick up their voices... right?

(This, despite the mystery of how, in the early 1920s, Boston's Eunice Randall Thompson, known as "The Story Lady," was able to read children's stories on the radio. And that the first motion picture featuring sound, 1927's "The Jazz SInger," featured at least two women in the cast.)
